Battery Wiring

We still have a two battery system in our Trilogy, but I've been reading up on the best way to wire batteries for the longest life recently and discovered that ours had been wired wrong for a two battery system.

Batteries must be wired differently depending on how many batteries make up your battery bank. For a two battery system you take the positive off of one battery and the ground off the other battery and those go to your camper. Then you cross connect the two batteries in parallel.

This distributes the "pull" of energy from the batteries evenly across the two batteries.

Ours had been wired where the two batteries were wired in parallel but the positive and ground came off of one battery and went to the camper.

I moved the camper positive to the other battery and checked the water levels.

I have attached a photo of how ours is now that I've properly wired the batteries to the camper.

I had my dealer install 4 batteries when I purchased the Trilogy. He too wired the batteries incorrectly. I found this out while adding an AMP meter to the battery bank to monitor charge/discharge. I rewired mine as well. Seems to hold a charge better since it is not pulling everything from the one battery.

After our disaster in Texas with the storm, all of my batteries were replaced. They had tipped slightly during the incident and dumped acid on my hydraulic lines running through the battery compartment. The hydraulic lines had to be changed as well since the acid was eating through them.

Glad you discovered this and corrected it. Makes you wonder how many others have the batteries wired incorrectly.

Also looks like our battery compartments are different sizes. I think I could get at least 6 batteries in mine.
