Ladders require backing of some kind behind the fiberglass/roof material in which to screw/bolt the ladder.

Since yours did not come with a ladder, I would suspect that it does not have that backing built into the sidewall or roof and you would have to accommodate that missing material somehow. I, personally, wouldn't try to add that material as I would get it wrong. You're probably better.

I use a collapsible ladder. Recesses into itself, takes up little room and doesn't poke holes in my rig.

I've used one for many years.

My Hemi 282 didn' t come with an installed ladder, but the blocking was installed as SOP because the initial assemblers did not know if there was going to be one or not.

ua40j,

Thanks Jim for your response. I am not familiar with a collapsible ladder. Can you point me to a web link or manufacturer so I can check one out?

We have the same unit and I use a collapsible ladder also. Here is a link to the one we use.

Another note, we carry it in the front generator prep area since we don't have a generator. We typically won't boondocks so the added storage area is nice.

The one we use is similar to the one Bill and Pam use. Amazon has several. This is one, although it is not the one I use. And if you do order one of these, make sure it's high enough AND has the correct weight rating.

I'm not a small fellow, so mine is rated at 250lbs.

Since I have a 2014 Trilogy 3650RE which is 13' 2" I may need a ladder that is more than 12.5'. I would like to get one that will enable me to get on the roof if necessary. Thanks for all the help to you Jim and to Bill & Pam.

I have the 785P model which is better than 15 feet tall, so no problem getting to the roof of the Trilogy if needed. If you decide on this route be sure to get the silicone rung cover it helps to prevent damage to the gel coat.

Trilogy actually did have 2 piece ladder that was installed in the center of the back wall. Do not know if you could find out who manufactured it or find one. I use a little giant ladder that I carry in the bed of my truck.

Our 37FB came with that 2 piece ladder setup. But after looking at it closely, I took off the removable portion and put it away for good.

Not the sturdiest installation or the most confident way to get on the roof of our rig.

The whole thing was just kinda weak. I much prefer the extension ladder we use now.

Just my .02

I did the same.
Let's call it what it is: An accident waiting to happen.

I purchased a 38RL on May 23, it had the 2 piece ladder on it from the factory. I went up it at the dealership to inspect the roof, and it collapsed on me just before I got to the top. I had to swing up on the roof in order to free my left hand that was pinned between the roof and the ladder. They brought an extension ladder over to the camper to get me down from the roof!
I now have a combination ladder in the cargo bin to use if I were to need to get on the roof!

Side note. They started replacement paperwork that day, and it is now into July, and I am still waiting on the replacement ladder, replacement step light that never worked, and a RECALL Repair Kit for my entrance steps. Having traded in a Keystone Alpine 3600RS for this Trilogy 38RL, I am becoming woried that I have made an EXPENSIVE mistake. My NEW UNIT has been at the Dealership since the third week of June, and I am getting Frusterated. Can anyone supply me with phone numbers where I may get some assistance in getting the parts for my Trilogy Expedited? New to this forum, not new to campers. Thank you for your patience in hearing a new member vent his frustration.

Hope you didn't incur any injury in that collapse. If so, I hope you're recovered.

Here's the person I have contacted in the past with great success for diagrams and information. She was very helpful.

New ladder has been put on my 38RL, no injuries, just nearly soiled my pants! The new upper section has reinforcement loops just above the back glass, to prevent where my first 1 folded. I will remove the lower section and hang it on the garage wall. I have a Werner 17 ft multi ladder in the basement for any needed roof excursions. I will not get on it again, but if yours does not have the cross bracing, get it replaced as I think there is a recall on that ladder!
