A non-propane heating alternative?

I just saw this pop up in my Facebook feed and was wondering if anyone else has checked it out. If this could be used in a camper when plugged in to the campground electric, itíd save quite a bit on propane use.

It looks like itíll fit and should work pretty well. Also, theyíve got a 15% off offer through Halloween and they offer free shipping.

Iíll let yíall know how it goes. At only a 4 amp draw, I should be able to test it out plugged in to my house (no 30 amp outlet - yet).

Thanks!

I ordered one as well. Will test it in my bathroom at home first and also let you know how well it works!

These appear very expensive for just 475 watts. $140 for the plug in model.

This one's almost twice the heat (750 watts) for 1/4 the cost ($30).
https://www.vornado.com/shop/heaters...ersonal-heater

Most "whole room" plug-in heaters are 1500 watts.

And claiming "high efficiency" is BS. In a heater, ALL the power is converted to heat - 100% efficiency.

Also, you'll probably find that 475 watts isn't going to do much, unless you're camping in very mild weather.

Some people on the forum have used electric wall heaters effectively, I have not. Total depth of unit, amps unit would draw and available outlets to plug into would be the things I would look for. Good Luck!

I'm guessing you meant 3 "wattage" or "power" settings, not voltage. It's all 110VAC.

Spec sheet says 600W, 900W and 1500W. So about 5.5amps, 8.1 amps, and 13.6 amps. Plus a little for the fan.

None of these home models are greater than 1500W, because they'd pull more amps than 15amp home circuit can handle.

In my 40' 5th wheel, I use two 1500 watt (15 amps)space heaters and the electric fireplace abd can keep the rig at a 45 degree temp difference from the outside temp. Rather use the parks electricity than my propane (an RV propane furnace is about 60% efficient whereas with an electric heater is 100%

Heating Options

Just a little word of warning...if you're in weather that is below freezing, the propane furnace is the means of heating the underbelly where the water lines are located, right? Gotta keep that warm so I wouldn't eliminate the propane heater, just supplement it like we do. We're full timers and use the electric fireplace in the front living room and an electric space heater in the bedroom. Keeps us toasty and the propane furnace still runs enough to keep the underbelly warm.

We use a small 3 setting, oscillating heater that used to be under my desk at work. Leave that in the big room. If it is on the colder side, I bought a 250 watt "desktop" unit at Menards that we plug into the bedroom or bath to supplement. The mini unit is currently on sale for $8.

This what we use as well. I keep the thermo on the furnace at 68 and let the electric heater to take most of the chill out. The thermo rarely kicks on.

One thing no one has mentioned about the wall heater is, I would be concerned about mounting anything on the walls considering how thin RV walls are.

Propane heating alternative

My wife and I have wintered in Savannah, Ga for ten years. Weíve used two edenpure heaters in our Flagstaff 831RLBSS, one in bedroom, one in living area. If itís forecast to drop below freezing, we let a faucet drip. Have had no problems at all.

We use a 1500 watt electric convection heater when plugged into shore power. No noise. (underbelly is not heated)
