Coach in motion w/ propane valve open?

I just had my propane tank refilled in Colorado Springs, and the owner/operator chastised me royally for having my tank valve open while the MH was in motion. He said that a family of five had been "incinerated" because the liquid propane sloshed into the regulator and hit the fridge flame at 100 psi...even if only filled to the 85% capacity! Question: I've been doing this for 20 years....does anybody turn their propane off on the road?

When I had class A I never turned the propane off. When re-fulling I would make sure all propane items were turned off so no flame present. Now in a 5th wheel and have yet to turn the propane bottles off. Yes things can happen and I am sure there is more to the story.

Wouldn't the refrigerator go off with no shore power or propane on?

I have always left my propane turned on, no matter what camper I owned. Once when I pulled into a gas station in my Class C, a young cute attendant rushed to my door and told me immeditaly to turn off all propane tanks before refueling. I did as she asked, but that was the only time.
