Given a steel 30 lb tank weighs about 25 lbs empty and 56 lbs full, a composite tank at 17 lbs really only saves you about 8 lbs, so 17 lbs empty and 48 lbs full. Not really a lot of weight savings in the grand scheme of things.
To me, their real advantage is being able to actually see the level in the tank.
Given their price, I don't think I would ever buy them for either the weight savings OR the ability to see level unless I had to replace the steel ones that came with my trailer for some reason.
Now, if I could bargain with the dealer when I bought my TT to give me composite over steel from the get-go, I'd be interested.
