convert fifth wheel propane to autoswitchover

I've got 2 propane tanks on opposite sides of my trailer. Each has a regulator and eventually they cross connect under the trailer. I see no check valves so when changing out tanks, I shut off the full one when I remove the other to fill it. Has anyone converted the system to either install check valves or an auto changeover?
Thanks,
gp

There are internal check valves. To verify it, disconnect one propane tank and slowly open the valve on the remaining connected propane tank. Nothing will come out of the fitting that was disconnected from the first tank. If you really want to test it, submerge the disconnected propane fitting in a glass/bowl of water and watch for bubbles. Just be sure to thoroughly dry the fitting before connecting it to propane again.

My first camper was a Space Craft 45’ fifth wheel, it had four 30# tanks, two on each side with auto switch over between them, then another auto switch from side to side.
It can be done, but because it’s gas it might be best to hire it out, unless you’re licensed to work on gas. I’m a retired stationary engineer, I get to work on everything.

I am surprised that you do not have an auto changeover, Our 5th wheels in the past did on the main regulator on the curb side of the trailer. As the others have said you should have a check valve in the system.

You didn't list your R/V make/model so I had to go look at your profile to find you have listed a 2021 Cherokee Grey Wolf 22 RR.

Can you post a photo of your tanks? That model shows two tanks on the front. Has someone modified this setup?

Yep, I'm a semi-retired maintenance guy and know how to do gas, but wasn't sure about check valves in the connectors. I'm surprised they didn't do an auto switchover instead all the extra hose and 2 regulators.

Thanks, those of us that use the mobile app don't see signatures. You may want to update the information in your profile.

I’m a retired stationary engineer. I’d look up the code before bothering with a check valve. The tanks themselves have check valves that trigger with a sudden loss of gas. I don’t know if the auto switch over has check valves. When I changed our park model over to two tanks, I just plumbed it like a camper trailer with two tanks, no extra check valves. Not certain why you would need them just because the tanks aren’t sitting next to each other. Maybe somebody can clue me in.
