Costco Propane Tanks with Gauge
I recently went to our local Costco in Tallahassee and saw propane tanks on sale which have built in gauges. Anybody have or used these tanks. I was going to add gauges to my existing tanks but this appears to be a better option.

Those cylinders with the built in gauges work wonderfully. They rely on a float mechanism and not pressure in the cylinder. The gauges are much more reliable.

I changed out one of mine last year to a cylinder from Sam's with gauge. Worked great and plan on doing the other this weekend. Seems about $30 sticks in my mind as the cost.

I bought one 3 weeks ago and love the way they give you the amount of fuel left. Pretty accurate. I now own 3 of them. Later RJD

You'd have to make sure it's actually a float gauge, and not a pressure gauge. The pressure gauges tell you what you already know... either you have propane, or you're out. All the ones I've seen at Costco are pressure gauges.

At my local Costco, the guy from tire service who fills the propane tanks told me those gauges work for about or two then they have a tendency to quit, so just keep that in mind.

I bought two of them at Sams a month ago. Before I bought them I verified that it was a float gauge by simply turning the empty tank upside down. The float will fall to the valve end of the tank and indicate "full",They were $29.95.

What size rad these thanks? If the right size, I might need to get some. Was looking at the ones that you can see into. They are really costly.

Propane Gauge
Internal gauges as others have said work great but addons don't tell you anything until the tank is nearly empty. The problem with internal gauges is they prevent you from doing the easy tank swap. If your using larger tanks and don't do the tank swap thing then you will likely love the internal gauges.

Generally, they are "20 lb", holding about 4.5 gallons. Above that, the safety valve releases.

We picked up a pair of them last year at Sam's.
So far so good.
I am planning on adding another one to my collection
so I always have one that is full, one I'm using from,
and one at home I can take and get filled when I have time.

We have two of them for the house. We use it for the fire pit and the bbq. They work great and seem quite accurate. If they had these in a 30 lb tank I would swap them out with the ones in the RV. At $25 it's a steal. I've seen gauges at that price at Home Depot. Jerry

Manchester Tank offers them with a gauge installed or you can buy the opd valve/gauge and retro fit your old 20# or 30# cylinders. See your local LP Dealer.
