Unhappy External Propane Quick Connect

Hi, I have a Salem FSX 179DBK. A month ago, I was parking it on some wood planks for storage purposes and one of the planks popped up as the tire was mounting the plank. It sheared off the external propane quick connect from the back of the camper. Normally, I would think this no big deal and would just replace it. However, part of the screw from the quick connect is still in the mount. I have tried to remove the mount from the propane hose to no avail. I have also tried to use a tap to remove the portion of the brass screw that is still stuck in the mount, also to no avail. I’m not what one would call wimpy, yet with all my strength, I cannot get either of those fittings to budge. Are they glued in or something? If so, does anyone have any idea how to get that partial screw out so that I can put in a new quick connect?

Thanks for the help!

Not sure I totally understand the screw and hose situation. Usually, the QD connector is threaded into a T coming off of the black iron pipe. Posting a pic would be helpful.

Okay, I see what you're working with. That is a gas manifold. The screw you're talking about is the snapped-off brass portion of the 1/4" NPT from the QD ? The red stuff appears to be Gasoila Hard Set pipe thread sealant, or something similar to it. I've had luck applying a small amount of heat (propane torch), to loosen the sealant to remove fittings that are installed with that stuff. Removing the broken piece of the QD might be a challenge. It may release under heat and be able to be extracted with an easy out. The critical thing is not to get too much heat towards the rubber line. I've never use "hard set" sealant. I've always used the yellow teflon tape designed for propane. That is a low pressure fixture you're dealing with.

Google pipe nipple extractor or easyout and apply heat as D W suggested.

Maybe a high-wattage heat gun instead of a propane torch.

Thanks a lot folks. I will try this. Like I said, I think the red stuff is hindering my ability to extract the stuck piece. I'll let you know what happens with heat.

It's doing what it was designed to do: prevent the connection from coming loose
