FR3 No propane at quickconnect

Hello all,

I have purchased a 2019 FR3 32DS and I am trying to hook up my grill to the quick connect. I do not know if propane is coming out because my grill will not light. Is there a way to see if there is propane coming out?

What grill are you trying to connect?
Something aftermarket or one that came from the factory designed to couple to the low pressure quick-connect?

Be sure you are making a proper connection.
The lever on the R/V side of the quick-connect has to be perpendicular to the line to allow the coupler's collar to move back far enough for the male line to couple. Once coupled and locked, you turn the lever parallel to the line.

two possibilies:

most quick connect fittings have a 1/4 turn valve built into them. check to see if yours does and make sure it is turned to the on position to allow the propane to flow through it.

the quick connect fitting is probably low pressure propane, meaning it has already gone through the rv propane regulator. make sure the regulator that came with the grill is removed. having to go through two regulators will reduce the propane gas pressure too much such that the grill may not light.

I am using a Coleman NXT 200 grill.

I have tried moving the level in both positions, but it does not help. I don't know a way to test if I am making the connection (operator error) or if there is something wrong with hardware. I have also tried to hook the quick connect to a portable heater and still no gas.

I have not. Before I did that I wanted to make sure that was the issue.

going through two regulators is most probably the issue.

there are many youtube videos on how to adapt a grill to use the rv quick connect outlet. they basically involve removing the regulator from the grill and using a hose to connect the grill to the quick connect.

but if you do that you cannot then use the grill independent from the rv as there is no longer a regulator attached. we wanted to continue to use the grill either from the rv or independently. so i bought a quick connect fitting set (male and female). i attached the female to the grill and the male to the regulator. if i want to use the grill independently i just attach the regulator back to the grill using the quick connects. if i want to use the grill from the rv i use a propane extension hose with male and female fittings on each end. we've used the grill both ways and it works fine. you may need a few adapters to adapter the existing fittings to the quick connect fittings.

Thank you for the help. I have been looking online for a video. I cannot find one for the set up for the NXT. I appreciate the help.

Are there grills already made for this type of application. I love my grill and use it often outside of the RV. I wouldn't mind purchasing another one for just the RV.

Check the gas line where it enters the coroplast up to the quick-connect if you still are not able to get gas flow. My grill that came with the trailer would not work and I found that the line was kinked where it had been pulled up into the wall. The plastic tubing was folded over to the point where no gas would flow through the lines. Once I took the twist out of the line and opened the kink things worked well. Then I decided I didn't like that much heat so close to the trailer and no longer use the wall mounted grill. Still nice to have the quick-connect functional though.

A search of this site will find a number of threads on grills/griddles for RVing.
Personally, I have a 22" Blackstone griddle that I use both at home and on the road. I got the parts needed to connect it to my RV quick connect from Propane Gear. https://propanegear.com/

RV external propane connection is low pressure and your grill is high pressure.
So you have to have a low pressure grill, like Camp Chef or Blackstone or do modifications on your high pressure grill.

FR3 No propane at quickconnect

I bought this Vector smoker/grill by Smoke Hollow, screwed off the detachable regulator, and replaced it with an 18” pigtail and a 12’ propane line from a company in Houston. Click image for larger version

As you've conceded, the problem is probably that you have two regulators in series.

But it's worth mentioning that you might have the wrong quick connect fitting. There are a couple of types that won't mate with each other.

Weber grill hookup

Picture of Weber grill with regulator removed and male fitting attached to hook up to your RV low pressure hose connection. You may need a reducer bushing and small nipple to connect hose connection to where the regulator was. From RV to grill recommend a 12' hose.

Second picture is where I took an old BBQ hose pig tail to an external propane tank (the 5 to 20 lb type) with a female shutoff connection. This will allow you to use the Weber anywhere with an external tank when not hooked to RV.
