He saw me coming

It's a long story so I'll cut to the chase on my first question here since I believe it's rather important: (see pic) ... Is this really an acceptable way to hook up LP? The LP leak detector was on the wall but when I noticed no lights I discovered it disabled.
Thanks in advance!

That's what's know as a POL (Put On Left) LP connector. It's still used but only in rare instances. While it's acceptable, I would change out that pigtail to one with a Type 1 connector as soon as possible.

Take a picture of where it connects to the regulator and we can help you choose a new one.

As for the detector, Is it disconnected or just have a fuse pulled?

The 20-30 pound tanks use basically the same valves that has been used for years on 100 lb residential tanks. The acme type screw on connecter was added 20-30 years ago. In a residential dual tank setup, the regulator will have 2 cooper tube with brass fittings using only the valves internal left hand thread. Most older LP retailers still use a large left hand tightened hose connection for filling.

the old type as shown in your pictures require a wrench, the new ones tighten by hand. only difference.

and I have seen the new ones fall where the handle cracks and it leaks if over tightened

I got some of these from my local propane dealer. BTW, amazon is out of them.
Called a plastic hand wheel for the POL valve.

POL: Prest-O-Lite, named for the company that invented it.

Sounds like your dealer was getting rid of old stock. I don't think it is too big a deal, but I do like the new connectors much more.

Thank you all for the info! I picked up 2 pigtails last night and all is good. Regarding LP leak detector Bama, it neg wire separated from wire nut connection on purpose but I looked up the unit and its from CCI (out of business); all new gas detectirs are in my Amazon basket now.

My cutting torch still has this connector instead of the acme nut.
