LP Water Heater

I had an issue with my LP SW6DEL Water Heater not lighting off. The stove and fridge worked fine on LP.
After some trouble-shooting I removed the Control Module and discovered a burn mark. Camping World had a replacement, I installed and fired right up. I initially went through the motions of changing the electrode and cleaning the tube. The tell tale sign was the sparking of the electrode was very low.
Q3 was the culprit.

Glad you was able to find it. Unfortunately Suburban has a known bad batch of boards. You may want to contact them, as they may give you a replacement board, just to have in case.

Thanks, I may give them a call this week. The post you directed me to was one I read when initially working this issue.

There is a hyperlink in that post about the bad batch of module boards that will take you to another thread...where members have been able to obtain replacement boards outside of warranty time.


Like I said, Suburban is aware of this.

I've heard and read the same about the Dino replacement. I don't use the LP for the WH often, and opted for the cheaper Suburban one this time around. I may buy the Dino CM in the near future as a spare though.

The Suburban replacement I bought has a few different resistors/components installed, maybe it will make it more reliable.

I did email Suburban (Airxcel Brand) with a response from Deborah Dean in Customer Service. Apparently they have no knowledge of this being an issue.

Funny... there are hundreds, if not thousands of us out in camperland that knows its an issue!

(I emailed Suburban); I seem to have one of the "bad batch" Control Modules. I recently read "Suburban is aware of an issue of the Q3 component on some water heater module boards that was caused by the manufacture of the component".

(Excerpt from her reply); "I am not sure who made that statement or where you saw it, however, we here in the customer service department are not aware of this issue".
Lol... I gave up, I have the new one installed and I'll see how long it lasts. The other one lasted about four years, but with very, very little use.
