Male to Male quick connect hose

Hello,

I've been camping for a while but new to this forum...

Camper has an LP quick connect 'female' near the rear. I have a generator that can run on propane (also has a quick connect 'female') and would like to use that quick connect. However, I've been trying to piece together adapters and hoses for weeks with no luck! I'm guessing there's a reason they don't make/sell a hose with male to male quick connects on both ends.

I'm hoping someone here may be able to assist?

So far I've purchased a few LP hoses and adapters but the 3/8" NPT threads on the hose don't align properly with the threads on the adapters.

Any help will be much appreciated!

take a trip to home depot and you should find everything you will need. you are probably going to need a quick connect fitting (comes with both the make and female end, you'll use only the male). you may need a npt bushing / adapter / fitting to adapt the fittings on the propane hose to the npt side of the female quick connect. take you hose with you and test fit the parts at the store. remember the yellow gas teflon tape and some soap solution to test for leaks.

I looked at Propanegear.com. What you want could be made by getting two Female POL x Male Quick-Connect Adapters and a 1/4" Propane Ball Valve that has male threads on both sides or a similar plain connector. Issue is, does the female quick connect on your trailer have a valve to prevent gas flow as soon as a male connector is attached?
You may be able to get the same parts at many big box stores.

The principal reason there is not a "stock" male-to-male hose is that it is a safety issue (think of an analogy with a male-to-male electrical cord -- if plugged in, the opposite male end would be hot and dangerous). If you plug one end in to a source of gas and the other end is loose, gas could flow freely. Our trailer outside gas outlets are female just downstream from a shutoff valve so gas won't flow. If you make up a hose, I would strongly recommend that you include a shutoff valve in the hose at the end where you intend to attach it to your generator. That way, that end would be less likely to be disconnected from the generator when the gas is free flowing because the valve at the trailer is still open; the hose valve should be closed before the generator connection is released.

If it were my generator I would change out the female fitting on the generator for a male quick connect, then I could use a standard M/F hose with the shut off on the female end. Solves the safety issue and follows standard installation practices.

Any decent big box home store should be able to fix you up. I took off the regulator on my small Weber and had help finding the fittings to make the RV connection to the BBQ. While at it, also did a hose where I can hook up the removed regulator to a external propane tank with connectors if desired. You may need brass reducers, bushing, etc. but a knowledgeable person can help get you where you want to be. Personally, I love the convenience of not having to tote along a 5-20 lb tank. Hook up is so much nicer and quicker if you can tap the RV motorhome propane tank.

NAPA auto stores can usually custom make any kind of hose you need. Folks there are much more knowledgeable about that stuff than the big box stores.

X3...I have done this to several propane items. This allows one to use a propane hose with a male/female end like an extension cord.

X2 with Hartly! Change out generator hose with male fitting and stay safe! Advantage here you can have new hose made to length to safe distance the generator away from Rv if needed! I had local Ace hardware make a 20 foot hose so that my grills are not under the awning!
