Nothing is getting propane! Help!

So nothing is getting propane. Not my stove, not the fridge, not the heater, not the water heater. NOTHING! I bought a new regulator with new tubes included, have a working propane tank and nothing is working still. Is there a chance that the tube running from the regulator to the piping that runs throughout the trailer is bad? Is there a safety valve I’m not seeing? I’m so stumped.

Hello,

Propane cylinders and hoses have a failsafe valve inside. If opened too quickly they well **** off right at the tank,

Make sure all appliances are shut off first.

Then open the propane cylinder valve very slowly.

There are two stages to each regulator assembly. Do you have any pictures. trailer model, fifth wheel or Travel Trailer. All have different components.

I had same problem this past Summer. I bought a new regulator (Mr. Heater brand) but it didnt help. Bought a new Marshall 2 stage and new pigtails. One side worked but the other didnt and I smelled propane. Checked all connections and found another small regulator on other side so replaced it. I also found that the 11 foot propane line that went from the main regulator to small one was bad as it leakes and fitting was real loose in the line. I had a new one made by propanegear.com. Now all is good. System works great

Rhenneman12 welcome to the forum. I see this is your first post and I'm sorry you are having issues.

It is ALWAYS helpful to post the make and model of your rig so everyone can give better answers. Also you might want to set up a signature line so that information is in every post you make.

Couple quick questions...
Did the propane system ever work?
If this is a new unit, did the stove, oven, refrigerator, water heater and furnace operate correctly during your PDI/Customer Orientation?

Hi there! It’s a forest River Evo Travel Trailer. I tried turning on the propane tank slowly this morning but it still didn’t work. Looks like someone below suggested it might be the propane lines?

If it's never worked then I suspect the main line or hose is kinked or plugged before the first appliance. You can take the hose loose at the main line and blow through it to see if it's plugged.

Is there just 1 tank? I know on our camper there is 2 tanks with a switcher between the 2. Is the switch, by chance "in between" if there are 2 tanks.

You shouldn't have to be chasing down this issue.
Your dealer should be taking care of this!

Have you check your battery? The gas valve will not work if the RV battery is not charged.

Depends on the year of the Trailer. My 02 has no battery control. There is no electric shut off valve.

I had a similar problem but not the total system, just the BBQ outlet.

For some reason they used hose all the way from my regulator to every single appliance. Found a kink that shut the BBQ line totally off.

Since you have NO propane, I'd first check to see if you have any in the tanks. Assuming you've done that already, check the hose from the regulator back to it's first junction. Make sure it's not pinched off.

Lastly, is the changeover knob/lever all the way to one side or the other?

I have owned two popup trailers and three hard side trailers and a camper and there was never any connection between the battery and the propane system.

Here is what I would do - in this order:
1 Is the changeover valve half way between the two positions?
2 Is the tank heavy and sloshes when you rock it?
3 Will the tank work on a BBQ or a space heater?
4 Can you trade another tank for the one you have that isn't working?
5. Can you disconnect the hose from the bottom of the regulator? If so, turn the tank valve on and listen for gas flow at the regulator. If nothing, the problem is in the regulator. As mentioned there is a valve that shuts off the flow if there is a big leak. To reset this valve, turn off the gas valve at the tank, loosen the regulator to tank fitting, tighten it up and turn it slowly on. Check again.

6. Stoves do not require any DC voltage so a burner should light if there is flow. Still not working? Start looking for a kinked hose under the trailer that comes from the tank. Water heaters and furnaces require battery power to open the propane valve to the appliance.

I'm surprised no one has asked if there is an odor anywhere. Most two-stage regulators have a small port about 1/8" (that is supposed to be pointing down). See if you can smell propane a that port...use the saliva test to see for sure. If so, then you likely have a failed regulator. Regardless, some of the instructions above are good. Always open the supply valve very slowly; and always watch the person filling your tank to make sure the supply valve is closed before filling. An overpressure can easily damage the internal regulator valves. And, carry an extra regulator. Surprisingly, Lowes carries some universal models.

I had an interesting event a few weeks ago, related to the question of safety devices.
I had a 20 lb tank empty, so I replaced it with a tank recently filled. After hooking up to the RV, I couldn't open the tank valve - my strength is not what it used to be due to age and a broken wrist 3 years ago, but it was strange. After I used the most force I considered safe using the slipjoint pliers, I turned the valve (by hand) clockwise and it closed. Obviously the chap who filled it left the valve open-and the safety device worked ok. All seems good, we had propane 'till we closed the RV.

Does it have a propane leak detector? If so is it turned on. Check for a valve with 2 wires to just after the regulator and the main hose exiting it. I have this on my George Town and it must be turned on.

Welcome to the forum.

As others have said, we still need more info to be able to help you.

Did you try running a stove burner, put your ear to it and listen, if there is a hissing sound then it may be as simple as unpurged lines. My TT (35' rear kitchen) can take upwards to 2 minutes to get the stove to light after an extended shutdown, I always light the stove to get the propane flowing first then turn on the fridge, etc as most of the automatic appliances will go into safe mode if no ignition and shut themselves off.

Yes... this ^^^^^

If the OP returns and gives some answers to use as clues, we're kinda wasting time. Answers to a couple of these questions should hash this down fairly quickly.
