Propane Gas Leak
Seems like I find a gas leak on every new or new to me camper I buy. Last camper had no gas tape or dope on black pipe threads which allowed for gas to leak at each "T" and elbow fitting.
My "new " fifth wheel had a peculiar smell everytime I entered it. At first, I thought that there was a dead mouse in the heat ducting. Fortunately, tonight's smell was stronger and enough to trigger my nose's mercaptan sensors.
This leak was at the stove copper feed line flare fitting to the stove top regulator. The flare had a nick in it that was causing gas to leak past it and come out of the threads. I cut the line, re-flared it, and installed gas tape the threaded portion of the flare fitting. All is good right now.
Little bummed out that my propane gas detector didn't catch the leak but it is on ground level. I think I may install one closer to the stove area to catch any future leaks potentially from the water heater, fridge, or stove.
If you purchase a new or used camper, take a few minutes to spray all of your gas fitting connections. Factory workers typically are paid by the unit and they often cut corners to earn a decent living.
