Propane Quick Connect

I am the happy owner of a Rpod 178. I have a low pressure quick connect hose that I want to use for a Coleman 2 burner stove that uses small bottles. Well....I doesnt work. Doesnt allow for enough gas pressure to light it. Is there a grill that uses the small bottles that will work with this quick disconnect hose?

If you can, remove the grills built in regulator. That's why it does not work.

You will need to remove the low pressure regulator on the stove then you can hook up your hose to the connection on your camper. We had to do that on our weber q grill that was set up for the bottles.

it depends. do you have a picture of the regulator that came with the grill? i had a small red coleman grill and had the same issue. if the grill has a regulator that also has the flame control adjusting knob built into the regulator there not going to be much you can do to use the quick connect.

if the grill has a regulator but the flame controls are on the frill itself then you can use the quick connect. you'll have to remove the regulator and run a hose from the quick connect fitting to the grill itself. there are lots of threads and you tube videos on how to do this.

now if your grill has the integrated regulator and flame control you can still use the rv propane tank instead of the green bottles. you will need to run a hose between where the green bottle screws into the regulator and the high pressure output on the rv's propane tank. typically a y-adapter is used to attach to the rv propane tank output. one side of the y goes to the existing rv high pressure hose and the other side goes to the grill.

if you can get back with what you actually have i'm sure we can provide more detailed advice.

Thank you for responding. I have attached some pictures. The hose that I have screws in where the small bottle would.

You don’t need to copy and paste a member name into your response. That generates a link which keeps a new member’s post from being made public... requires a moderator to approve it. Instead, use the QUOTE function to refer to a specific post.

Camp STOVES are a different breed than grills and operate on much higher pressure than most other LP accessories.

I have tried to convert two camp stoves (a Coleman and a Camp Trail) to low pressure with no success. I finally bought a camp stove specifically designed for low pressure. (Camp Chef)

Again, grills are different and many/most of them can be converted to low pressure.

my guess is the regulator is built into the grill itself. that may be difficult to remove. can you open the grill and see if you can find the regulator. i don't think the silver end that the green bottle screws into is a regulator.

Good info. Any camp grill that you recommend without me having to modify anything?

Again, grills and stoves are different animals.

Your original post mentioned/showed a stove and then you referred to grills.

Which do you want to connect to the low pressure quick connect?

There are gazillions of prior posts here on grill conversions. Everyone has an opinion on what is best for THEM.

Folks often list the grills that come with R/Vs here for sale. No modifications needed for these. Not sure why folks want to get rid of them so quickly. My brother's has cooked everything we've wanted to eat just fine.

You can buy a new one too at most Camping World locations or online. Others are available as well.

I'm currently using a $20 grill from Walmart using a simple adapter to the low pressure quick connection on our 5th wheel.

Why not just use the one pound bottles and have the freedom to move it around if you need?

Its is in fact a stove. My mistake. What does that adapter look like? Thank you for helping.

So I'll state again... I have had NO luck converting a STOVE to low pressure and resorted to buying a STOVE that was built specifically for low pressure.

Most GRILLS are designed to use about 0.5 psi of propane pressure at 11" WC (water column) delivered by their attached regulator. (the device between the little green bottle and the grill)

Since your low pressure quick connect on the R/V is ALREADY regulated by the regulator at the LP tank to 0.5 psi and 11" WC, you must remove the appliance's regulator for it to work off the R/Vs quick connect. (you can't regulate it twice)

Unfortunately, many of the camp STOVES use a much higher regulated pressure (around 15 psi) so removing the appliance's regulator and then using the low pressure quick connect, it simply doesn't produce enough LP for the STOVE to work.

GRILLS are easily converted.
There are many types of adapters for the many different grills out there.

Again, there are MANY threads here about GRILL conversions.
Here is one such adapter.
