Propane woes

I have a 2015 Coachmen Prism. I have two questions. 1. I have noticed a propane smell inside the rv. I have shut off the propane. There is no smell near the propane tanks. This is the first trip of the season. I left the propane tank on during the winter months and my propane was empty. I have since learned this is a no no. Could this be the reason for the odor? I filled them before going on the trip. 2. It’s rather cold here and I am hooked up to shore power. Since the propane tank is shut off can I still run the heater? I was under the impression that when I’m on shore power that the furnace runs on electric. I have read that this may be incorrect. Thank you in advance.

The furnace only uses propane. It doesn't heat with electricity. It does use 12v battery power to ignite the propane and run the fan.
