Quick Disconnect LP Connection
Took my 5'ver to a local dealer to install a quick disconnect for my new grill. Sure looked good 'tll I tried to lite it up . . . NO CIGAR!!
I put a propane bottle on the new regulator and it heated up to 500 deg! Put the hose back on it and nothing. I called the dealer and talked to the tech. He said he check'd it and there was gas flow.
We decided: the RV regulator cuts the flow down to 10 ipw (inches of water-is that the volume of measure?) and the grill regulator keeps the LP flow low also.
Was the tech blowin' smoke or what? Somebody out there has to be feedin' their grill off the RV propane system. What's up??

If running off the already regulated RV propane you shouldn't have a regulator on the grill also.
You are double regulating and killing the flow.

Check out this youtube. There are others like it (including one I did) but I think this guy did the best easiest explanation.

It would help if you posted what grill you're talking about.
High pressure grills won't run off the RV pigtail propane hose because it's low pressure.
Most have to remove the grill's regulator and then adapt it to use the quick disconnect.

Sorry 'bought that. It's a Char Broil (low pressure) 'Grill 2 Go'. I kinda figgured putting a diaphragm control on a low pressure 'in' line was shooting myself in the foot. But it shuts the flow down completely.
Workin' on takin the thing apart now to see if I can find the parts. Thanks all! CG

Who told you that it's a low pressure grill?
That's a typical high pressure portable grill.
It normally uses the 2lb high pressure propane tanks, meaning it's a high pressure grill.

You need one of these, Camco 57274 Control Valve with Quick Connect, amazon has it. You can't regulate twice, your quick disconnect is already giving you low pressure gas.

10 inches of water column is a measure of pressure, not volume. propane appliances expect the propane pressure to be 10 - 11 inches of water. just fyi, 10 inches of water is about .36 psi.

The problem with alot of the high pressure grills is that the gas regulator, and the flame control , are one and the same. If you remove the regulator, you lose your flame control.
I bought a Olympian 5500, and its awesome. Not cheap, but one of the niceset grills Ive ever used.

X2. You have to remove the regulator from any appliances you are going to run off of you're already regulated supply line.

I don't know if this will help you but doc73 listed all the parts to covert a high pressure Coleman stove to use the low pressure gas line from the camper and getting rid of the regulator on the stove, and still allowing you to use it stock if ever necessary... provided part numbers and everything... great write-up

I just converted my Weber 2200 to a quick connect to the rear of my fiver. I used a similar video as above. Purchased a small adapter and a 10' hose and had the whole conversion done in about 20 minutes.

Should I install the quick connect on the camper or let the company I buy propane from install the connection. I have a 100 gallon LP tank I want to hook up too, that way I don't have to winterize the camper. We go somewhere each month
