Rv carbon monoxide/propane alarm replacement

Our 2019 Rockwood MiniLite 25BDS needs a co2 detector replaced. The model that came installed is a SAF-T-ALERT model 25-742. Can I replace it with a 25-741 model? Whatís the difference other than $75 vs $130? Are other manufactured brands acceptable to use?

Welcome to the forum. A look on line shows the 25-741 is RV approved. I suggest contacting MTI, the manufacturer SEE HERE, at 800-383-0269 and they should be able to answer any questions and warn you about any "gotcha" issues.

Looks like the difference is surface mount vs flush mount

25-742 (Flush) https://www.mtiindustries.com/produc...sh-mount-mini/

"RV Approved?"

But don't worry. CO2 is harmless (but I bet you meant CO).

Lowes, Home Depot, and Amazon will have enough different models to make your head spin. Just find one that uses batteries you like.

That's because they come with a roll of toilet paper that's approved!

"RV" detector runs on 12vDC. Works on your boat too. "Marine" detectors cost more.

Some detectors have a third wire feeding a solenoid which shuts of propane when in alarm. Check yours first for two wire verses three wire.

Amazon has a direct replacement model. That's the easiest to install.

First of all, the 2-wire vs 3-wire thing is for propane detectors, not CO2 detectors.

Second, the 3-wire units are mostly used on motorhomes, not trailers.

Very generalized response.
Amazon has a great selection of RV supplies. Other retailers do, too. Amazon is a great place to start your hunt, find the item you want, and then do a general search by brand/model.

eTrailer is another great source, but their site isn't as slick as Amazon. That's why I suggest you start there.

CLICK: RV propane CO detectors They even sell your brand with prime shipping for $68.

Obviously, the abundance of choices requires that you pay attention to things like dimensions, etc. if you plan to find an exact fit.

I mostly posted this to point you to Amazon for almost anything for an RV, from electric tongue jacks to potable water hoses, to, in some cases, replacement taillight fixtures. Often times you can save a LOT by not buying manufacturer replacement parts...which, by and large, are off the shelf stuff they simply buy in bulk. And if they resell to you, the markup can be nuts.

My RV microwave bit the dust, and I bought a perfect fit replacement of another brand through Amazon for far less than I would have paid a dealer.

First of all, the 25-742 is a dual alarm for both propane and CO.
Second, the 3-wire thing can also be used in trailers.

Why not say so?

Umm, all the posts prior to mine referred to a "CO detector." There was no reason for me to look it up. Eleven (!) posters ahead of me could have made that observation.

Yes, of course. But only on propane or combination detectors. Not on a CO detector.

CO2 is not harmless, otherwise it would not be effective in fire extinguishers. CO2 displaces oxygen.

CO2 Harmless ???

Symptoms of mild CO2 exposure may include headache and drowsiness. At higher levels, rapid breathing, confusion, increased cardiac output, elevated blood pressure and increased arrhythmias may occur. Breathing oxygen depleted air caused by extreme CO2 concentrations can lead to death by suffocation.

Sorry for off topic several years ago one of the major soft drink companies used mini vans for repairs to the soft drink machines at convenience stores and eateries.

For info at a store soft drinks at the fountain are mainly syrup, water, and CO2.

They carried a bottle of CO2 with them in the van. Hot summer, van windows closed for AC. Relief valve let go, driver died...............

Sorry involved with too many workplace deaths over the years.

If you remember, CO2 that almost killed the Apollo 8 crew. Level got to the critical level and it took a MacGyver solution to adapt the LEM CO2 scrubber system to use cartridges from the command module to clean the air.

Now I need to go check on the status of my CO/Propane detector. Getting to point where it may be aging out...
