Squealing propane

I have a 2010 Cardnal 5th wheel, when I use a 300lbs tank tank I get a loud high pitch squeal from the tank. If I use the 30lbs tanks there is no problem.
I have replaced the 300lbs tank twice, cleaned the whole propane system lines, replaced the regulator twice with no results. Anyone have any ideas??

I live in the 5th year round and have a 300lbs tank at the winter site so I don't have to fill the 30lbs every 5 days

How is the large tank connected to the RV's system?

Is there a separate regulator at the tank?
When using the large tank does the small tank regulator remain connected to the system.

How are you hooking up the 300# to the propane system? Are you using a separate 30# regulator at the external tank to connect to the system high pressure hose, or are you hooking to the existing high pressure hoses on the system straight to the 300# tank?

Have you talked to the local propane company that fills your tank (or who supplies the tank)? Bet they would have some ideas......

Spoke to them several times they suggested to change tanks ,we did that and still.have same issue. Tried using a 100# tank and that was ok no squealing. But with the 300# got the squealing

The connection at the tank, is it a POL or QCC type fitting? Also does the connection whether POL or QCC have an excess flow inside. My guess is the excess flow, if present, is positional temperament and is causing the squealing.

So you use the same regulator on the 30# and the 300# and you've already changed that. Changed 300# tanks and it still squeals, but if you use another volume vessel it doesn't squeal.

Since volume (to an extent) doesn't affect the pressure and the flow to the RV doesn't change just by changing the tanks, it has to be something common to the 300# (70 gallon) tanks.

I'm not sure that those tanks have an excess flow device built in.

In some installations there is a separate regulator at the tank that then feeds the supply line to the regulator on the RV.

The hose has a POL connection at the tank and there is no pin in it. Would that be the issue??

No, there is no excess flow in it to cause the noise. The only other thing I can think that would cause the noise is the disk on the stem assembly inside the valve on the cylinder is vibrating as the gas flows causing the noise, and is the same valve type on both the 300# tanks.

Bessie brings up a good point.

When you open the valve on the 70 gallon tank, do you open it all the way until it stops?

No I only have it slightly open to reduce the squealing. If it is all the way open it is extremely loud.

If I put a regulator in between the tank and the regulator on the 5th wheel what kind would you suggest?

Most fifth wheel RV's have a 20 or 30 PSIG regulator on the left side tank that reduces the pressure from that side to the main regulator. One of those should be fine.
