Why you shouldn't disable your propane alarm

Our rule of camping is no one smokes in our unit, period. I don't need or want the stink in my unit. Having said that, ours is always on and I change them out every 3 years. They do have a finite life.

Sigh, good reminder. I need to pickup a new one- it started false alarming the other day. I pulled the fuse.

I have no idea of the internal mechanism but like smoke detectors, they have a lifespan. Not all that expensive either. Good insurance IMO.

I've heard 5 years. They're 4 1/2-years old with a LOT of use on the camper.

Most of them have a replace after date printed on back and most of them will start to beep with a beep slightly different than low battery alert.

I went looking for a few minutes and it appears that the newer ones have an End Of Life (EOL) warning. The Safe T Alert will show both a red and green LED when their time is up.....
About 70 bucks for a replacement on Flea-Bay.
Smoke alarms have the same life issue.

When I was a kid my sister and I heard a loud explosion. Some guy went in to his small camper parked on the street and lit his cigarette and the camper exploded. Some how he walked away without injury.

My MTI Industries 20-441-P Safe T Alert is supposed to be replaced “60 months after retail sale,” so five years...

It seems to me the common problem with all of these is the smoking.

It seems that my DW, while cleaning at the back of the stove had inadvertently pressed and turned the knob to the on position with her waistband.
I have since replaced the gas detector.

10 bucks and change per year for peace of mind... pretty cheap I'd say.

I have been toying with the idea of making some kind of safety for my stovetop burner knobs. They're too easy to jostle open.
