Wolf Pup Furnace

We started our furnace last weekend for the first time since we bought the pup. When we started it the smoke detector went off. Have any of you experienced this? Will it go away the next time we start it or will this keep happening? We will open some windows the nest time we use it also.

Anytime metal is fabricated, there is a small amount of manufacturing oil left on all of the metal. I always open all of the windows and turn on a fan when I first start a furnace. The smell will go away after a short time. Turn on the furnace and set the thermostat rather high to allow the furnace to get as hot as possible without turning off.

Thank you. I had a feeling that was the case. We will definitely do that the next time we need the furnace.

The dealer should have informed you about burning off the oils BEFORE camping in it.

Our furnace did the same thing. 1st trip out in new 20RDSE turned the furnace on about 3am, shortly after it kicked in the smoke detector went off, strong smell of burning wood. Turned it off aired the unit out reset the alarm. Later checking it out found the top of the furnace was covered in sawdust, sides and most likely interior. Attachment 1

Took the cover off under the oven (photo 2) and found there was a cover on the furnace that was never installed, couldn’t have been as the left screw would have gone through the air duct as the screw was too long, just left it on the floor! I cleaned all the sawdust I could get to and found the damaged left side of the furnace (photo 1).

Also had a leak in the shower (never used) from the factory. We called our dealer and were told it would be a month before they would have time to check it out! Not a happy camper.Click image for larger version

When we purchased our pup in April right during the height of COVID in our area our dealer took us a quick trip around and through the trailer barely stopping to explain anything. I should have recorded it to review later.
