AC maintenance

Any one do any routine maintenance to your AC like cleaning the coils? Have never attempted it just looking for some suggestions to help keep it in top operating condition.

A/con maintainence

Remove the cowling...about a dozen screws, usually. Use your favorite dirt/degreaser/cleanser in a spray bottle and hit the grime. Wipe clean. Now you'll have a better view of things...check wire connections for tightness and cracking or fraying...clean the fan blades and lubricate the fan motor shaft...inspect tubing for any rust or coolant leak...spray the coil with foaming coil cleaner, available through any of the big box stores...let it do its thing and rinse thoroughly...make sure, at this point that drain holes are running clear...if there are cooling fins that are bent or flattened, use a small, wooden skewer or a coil comb to reset them...careful, they're fragile...now reinstall the cowling (you cleaned this as well, didn't you). Go inside the trailer and open up the unit...inspect the foam filter...if dirty clean in warm, soapy water, rinse, dry and set aside...inspect duct work...you don't want cross ventilation leaks...reseal gaps with metal duct tape if necessary, then reinstall the filter. Using a flashlight take a peek into your ac ducts...make sure everything is well connected. You're done. Enjoy your revitalized unit.

Anybody found an upgrade to the foam filter. Seems a little chinsey to me, especially after a couple of seasons use and many washings.

In addition to what has ben said in other posts. Check your mounting bolts accessible from inside your trailer. Over time they can loosen. They shouldn't be very tight but snug. To tight and the seal will be lost.

I believe I have a leak from my rear AC based on staining on the vinyl ceiling and wet light sockets aft of the AC unit. My rig sits in the drive with a downward rear slope and the staining is from the AC to the rear/end of rig or about 14-16 inches. All outside seals are perfect so I can only guess that the water is from the AC. Besides the 4 mounting bolts, which I tightened twice, snug as previously suggested on the class A thread, but not knowing how tight is snug? If I remove the cover, is there any other type of sealant around the outside AC mount that would need sealing?

You can go to lowes they sell a green filter like 20x20 then cut it to size will last a lot longer, or just cut a high eff. filter down to size and stuff it up there. will be tight but will work when you remove the 1" frame.

DONT seal the outside perimeter. the base pan has holes and water needs to drain. replace gasket. the only maintenance the needs to be done on a newer
coach is clean the filter once a week when in use. slipf18 is right on...but maybe after a few years..unless your a chain smoker with a pekinese...

Looks like that's what I will do. Thanks.
