Aluminum Siding Corrosion

I have a 2020 Salem 19dbxl. The aluminum panel on the rear next to the taillights is corroding. See attached photos. I didn't think the aluminum would corrode like this. Has anyone else seen this problem and found a solution? I'm tempted to just put an aluminum patch on it but I'm afraid it will just corrode as well.

This could be from road ice melting agent, sodium chloride, or calcium chloride. Or maybe the TT spent some time in FL and was exposed to salt air and water.

Yes, aluminum will corrode. That is one reason I would never consider a trailer, RV, or airplane that resided in FL.

Melting agent and Salt Air

This TT has had very limited exposure to salt and chlorides. It has spent most of its life in Tennessee. This is the only corrosion anywhere on the TT. I think I would see corrosion elsewhere if it was from an outside corrosive agent. I was wondering if there could be some kind of electrolysis from the tail lights. The only corrosion is 3" to the outside of the taillights. Im going to remove the taillights to see if there is some kind of short or exposed wire. Its worth a look.

if you suspect galvanic corrosion check if there may be trapped moisture under the skin
it usually requires some sort of electrolyte for it to happen

make sure you got a good ground to frame on the light fixture
and the panel is also "bonded" to the light fixture. see if you can add a wire to a screw that goes through the panel to hold the light
other end of wire to the ground on the light fixture... the wire bonds the two metals and should stop any galvanic corrosion.

galvanic corrosion can be problem with aluminum fuel tanks on boat
where some water has gotten trapped under the tank.. don't ask I how know that.
