More often than not this is caused by the fabric having shifted in either the roller track or the R/V side wall track just as Craig mentioned. Almost always, the fabric in the sidewall track has a screw through it but not always the fabric in the roller track.
The fabric gets "racked" and won't allow the awning to roll up straight.
Once you get it straight, put a screw in the sidewall track and a rivet in the awning roller. There are several older threads on this very subject.
