Benefits of Replacing Vent with Fan?

Heya,

I have a 2018 201BHXL. It came pre-wired for AC but didn't have one, so I added a Brisk II a couple of years ago. It works great but is very loud. I've been thinking of replacing my crappy stock bathroom fan with a Heng's Vortex II or MaxAir, but it got me thinking about the front vent (no fan currently) that's over the Murphy bed and whether having a fan there would make for a nice way to intake/exhaust between the two of them when we're not using the AC.

I am definitely going to upgrade the bathroom fan, so I can always see what happens after I've done that, but curious whether you folks have opinions on the benefits (if any) of a fan in that front location.

Thanks!

I found that, if there are windows that can be opened near the bed, it’s better to put the exhaust fan in a location not at the bed. The fan can be on in exhaust mode, and it will draw cool air in through the bed area windows, but the fan noise will be located more distant.

In your floor plan, assuming there are windows near the murphy bed, I would have a roof vent fan located at the kitchen, and at the bathroom.

If you have no windows at the murphy bed, you can still have a roof vent there that will have air drawn in from one of the other fan locations. If you really want air blowing on you at the bed, then install a reversible fan at the bed area, but it will likely be somewhat noisy.

Edit to add: on my past motorhome I upgraded from 2 cheap, buzzy Heng fans to 4 fantastic fans. The one in the bedroom was even reversible. It turned out after that the one fan of four we never used was the one in the bedroom.

I agree with paragraph one above.

According to the floor plan the OP provided, it appears there is a window on the driver’s side of the bedroom near the Murphy bed. Therefore, I agree with paragraph two.

We had a variable speed, reversible fan above our bed and thought it was great. Though on the exhaust mode it would bring fresh cool air in by the windows at the head of the bed we found it a bit drafty. We liked it better bringing air in plus it had a remote so we could turn it down or off during the night.

There is a window directly next to the murphy bed on what would be the top of the layout pic. Door is opposite that. The AC unit is installed over the kitchen in the middle red square.

It sounds like the consensus is to put a better fan in the bathroom to start and set it to exhaust, then either open the vent or window (or both) down near the murphy bed and see what kind of airflow we achieve there. If we still feel we need more, then I can look at putting a fan above the bed.

Thanks again for the input!

On my Class C I installed a Maxx-Air, 3 speed, reversible, remote, with rain sensor. We loved it. When we bought our TT we could not find a fan that we liked for a good price so we temporarily added a Vortex II fan in the bathroom. We have not found a reason to replace it so I guess it is there to stay. We use it on exhaust to bring fresh air in the windows by the bed.
