Birds in refrigerator vent on roof

So some birds decided to make a nest in my roof vent. I didn't catch it until after some eggs hatched but they are all gone now. So I removed the nest and need to vacuum out behind the fridge.

My problem is that the birds are trying to come back. I see them going in but they haven't tried building a 2nd nest yet.

I'm thinking maybe taping some screen to the underside of the cover might help? Putting it right in that space between the cover and the roof because that's where they're getting in.

I'm on a seasonal site so travel isn't a concern.

I'd try first to just break the cycle of the returning birds. I'd roughly stuff and wrap plastic bird netting around the entry spaces and leave it like that for a while. Later on, if the problem continues, I'd do as you say with a more permanent remedy. I used the stuff under my RV canopy because the birds would hang out on the braces, and make a mess on my RV roof. Birds seem scared of the net - they won't go anywhere near it.

Saw this and hoped there was a solution to keep birds away. Not from my camper but from my mailbox at home! This seems to be a bird latrine in heavy use! Pressure washing cleans it out but the bird poop returns magically. Tried spikes. Hope.

Half an hour reviewing Amazon reviews basically told me nothing works with up to 50% 1-star reviews.

Post any solutions for birds on this roof and maybe they'll work for me too.

Some try an owl figure, but I haven't had success with that. I thought the birds were laughing at me when I tried that.

It can get frustrating with nature sometimes. I've got a nest of at least 4 newborns in my fireplace vent. After they are gone I'll clean up the mess and figure out something to keep them from using that spot again. Minor inconvienience.

Owl figures work well in my gardens but there's no way I'll be allowed to mount one on my mailbox post.

I think it is robins that don't like me for some reason. Maybe after the chicks are hatched and move on. I have to fold the mirrors in on the car I have to park in the driveway or they'll sit on the mirrors and use them as a latrine too.

I used to have a tomcat that loved to get it on cab of my pickup and "survey his kingdom". Never had a bird poop problem on my truck

I took the cover off and sat on my deck to watch and see what happened. Both the male and female came back and seemed very confused and angry.

The male especially sat up there and kept chirping at me.

I eventually put the cover back on after the sun went down.

After a day or so owl figures stop working and just become another feature of the landscape to the birds. We are giving these little birds way too much credit for salient thought. They dot know what an owl looks like and if it doesn’t get off it’s post and chase them now and then it’s just a chunk of plastic

A simple piece of window screen that could be tented over the vent and stuck down with eterabond tape would do the trick. Don’t you think?

wait till they both inside then block the vent

Take them for a 20 mile ride... then release

Make sure they are not related to any homing pidgeons

Had a slew of birds in recent years attempting to build nests in the eves. They made an ungodly mess. Took down the nests and finally tacked up sticky traps and that solved the problem. May seem cruel, but the bird droppings made a huge mess. Haven't had a problem in last two years.
