breakaway exterior door latch?

After this happened I am wondering if anyone makes a break away exteriordoor latch.

Kinda looks like you have sort of a break away door latch there - only it didn't break away completely.

These are cheap but I have never seen anything better on all the FWs I have ever seen. Don't know about other brands or models.

I'm guessing a gust of wind caught it.

Breakaway latch? That would tend to defeat the purpose of the latch, wouldn't it?

Not in all applications - there are some things where a break away device "breaks" before further damage is done some place else. The break away setting is above what the normal setting or value is of the item it's installed on, but will break if that setting is exceeded.

Not sure these cheap door latches need to be of a break away design. I think over time they will just break on their own.

Yes. I would rather have door slam shut than rip holes in the door or side of camper.
