Gel Coat or Paint front cap

We just bought a Flagstaff Micro Lite 25FKBS. The literature in the trailer, including on the screen door says we have a painted cap. Different dealers told us painted, some said gel coat. Forest River said gel coat but wasn't sure. Is there a way to tell definitively?

welcome to the forum its a great place to get your questions answered. Not sure what difference it would make which you have unless you are experiencing a problem. Paint will normally peal up and can be scrapped up with a fingernail. Gel coat tends to chip.

Thanks for the welcome to the group! I am asking because my last trailer had a gel coat brown cap that was a pain to maintain, faded, cracked and was a lot of work to keep it looking new. That said my Micro Lite has a white cap should won't show fading much but I do want to keep it shiny. Thanks for your service BTW have a good friend on the Truman cruising the Med as we speak.

I believe it is gel coat. If it's one color then harder to tell. If there are any graphics that are not stickers, or different colors look for a tape line at the change. Gel coat is done in reverse to the edge created by multiple coats and masking in on the inside of the mold, if it's paint there will be a noticeable ridge where the tape was, even with multiple clear coats you should see the added paint thickness.
