Hail damage on roof

My 2 week old trailer got hit by a hailstorm last week. The skirting in dented up and there are depressions in the roof from the hail. The adjuster mentioned about giving an appearance allowance instead of replacing the roof due to the amount of work involved and since its so new. Sounds logical He offered to replace it if I want to. I think the allowance was $500. What would you do? I'm about problems down the line if I don't fix it. Also the idea is about tearing apart a new trailer doesn't sound great either. I've seen people talk about laying a thin sheet over the existing decking and putting the new rubber over that. What would you do? I think I want to replace it.

I would have them fix everything, it's too nice a trailer not to do that.

I would want a big discount from you if I were buying it. I don't know if RV's are like cars, but in Arizona we can make a diminishing value claim on our insurance. If you sell or trade a car to a dealer, they will hold back on the value due to insurance claims. We can recoup that money up front. No, your insurance man won't tell you about it...

I would replace it. $500 is a joke

I'll go ahead and replace it. The adjuster was a nice guy and I don't think he was trying to short me. Just offering advice. Now to wait to get it in to get fixed.

I would try to get cash for cost to replace and leave it as is. Guess depends how bad it is, but that's what I did with my motor home. When I traded it in no one even looked at the roof. Mine had minor damage.

Have you considered getting the money for replacement cost and putting on a new type of roof, like those Lifetime Rhino Roofs, or something?

I would think it would depend on how long you plan to have it. If you're going to hang on to it for a long time then try to get cash for the repair then leave as is but if you're planning on selling in a few years then I'd have it repaired. Just my 2 cent. cincia

Hail damage repair is expensive!! $500 is not a joke it's an insult. Sounds like you have thousands of dollars in damage to me. I would do like others have said and pocket the cash (once a reasonable offer is made) and just understand you will take a hit on trade in when the time comes. If you have a metal roof I find it hard to believe you will have leaks as a result of this unless we are talking baseball sized hail.

They gave me $4,100 up front and I can get supplements once I get repaired. It's a rubber roof. Not sure which kind. I think I'll get it replaced this fall. I'll have to look into the rhino roof.
