New 2018 Roo 233s with a hole in roof!

a windstorm brought down a branch onto our 6 month old roo 233s last night. This put a gouge through the roof that is 2” wide by 3.5” deep. It did not break through the underside at all.

Talking to Camping world, they suggest getting our insurance to replace the entire roof. Granted, they haven’t seen it, they are basing this off the brief description above. There does not seem to be surrounding damage as the branch punched through and did not bash/crush a larger area.

Is a complete replacement warranted. Today I am patching it with expanding foam to fill the void, covering that with a bit of sheet metal to give a hard cap, sealing that with the white ev roofing caulk and then covering it all with a 8x8 inch roofing patch. In my mind this is sufficient as a permanent fix. But it’s also a brand new camper and I’m not ready to let it start going down hill.

What would you all do?

Let me first say that that sucks. We share the same roofs. It is a rubber material over lauan board. The core is foam with another sheet of lauan on the other side

The only way to make it “like new” is to replace the entire roof membrane.

I would think you could patch this with little or no future problems, but explore your options like deductibles, time gone for the repair etc.

Other then getting a tarp over it I wouldn’t do any patching till your insurance can get there and look at the damage

That totally sucks. The biggest downside to letting insurance fix it, is we're at the beginning of summer, and that doesn't sound like a quick fix. maybe you can call the insurance company, do your temp patch, and then get the roof replaced in the fall?
