Removing old decals

What's the best way to removes old, sun baked decals from the front of a 5th wheel. A heat gun worked great on the sides, but is not very effective on the front.

Many people swear by the 3M Stripe Off Wheels. They remove the decal without damaging anything.

You might try some goof off and see if that will soften the adhesive along with the heat gun, this is just a guess on my part I'm sure someone on the forum will have a better solution for you

I just had the decals removed from my 2014 Flagstaff. Took it to Classic Fiberglass in Sanger TX. They did a great job. You cannot see where the decals were. They used some type of sanding wheel, then polished out the cap. They also did the entire camper, but the decals were the main reason. Super job by Classic.

This is my goto for sticker removal too. All you need is a drill. I get the wheel and mandrel from my local NAPA but of course available at Amazon.

What decalers use to remove decals from trucks and trailers (18 wheelers) is a heat gun. Now I am NOT suggesting that you use a heat gun to loosen them up but rather a blow dryer. A heat gun produces too much heat that will not be safe for fiberglass or paint. Please DO NOT USE A HEAT GUN. The concentrated heat from the blow dryer will loosen the adhesive on the decal. I then use a PLASTIC paint scraper to lift the decal which usually comes off in pieces. For removing any left over adhesive, which most will be still there, I prefer to use a rag with gasoline to soak the adhesive and then use the PLASTIC paint scraper to help collect the adhesive. You will still need to use the rag to get some residual adhesive. Make sure that any heater, water heater, refrigerator, or other appliance, flame, and spark producing apparatus is turned off or nowhere nearby while using gas. And do not use the blow dryer again until any gasoline or fumes are gone from the site. Some will say that the use of gasoline is unsafe, and they are correct to a point, and that is their prerogative. Used in an unsafe manner it certainly is as is anything. As an alternative to gasoline you may want to try GoofOff, mineral spirits, alcohol, or kerosene, maybe even diesel.

Adhesive remover from any paint store will remove glue . soak with adhesive remover will be safer !

Both Goo Gone and Goof Off are considered to be "safer" products to remove adhesive but BOTH have labels that warn of using near sparks or flame (the same as gasoline). The only remover that I have ever seen that DOES NOT contain petroleum distillates is one of the "orange" based ones and good luck getting the adhesive off with one of those. Whatever you decide to use, it will probably be a petroleum based product, most are, be careful, try different products and see what works best for you.

I had a solar information sticker on my wall near the thermostat. After I removed it there was a tacky film left behind. I put GooGone on a paper towel and began to gently rub it off. I stopped IMMEDIATELY! The color started coming off of the panelling! I now have a small blemish on my wall. I think I'll install the display for my surge protector over it.

Whizzy Wheel is by far the best tool to use to remove old, baked on, and cracked decals from your RV. I tried all kinds of products like GooBeGone, 3M gum wheels, and heat. Nothing worked.
Bought the Whizzy Wheel and two hours later all the brittle baked on decals on my cap were gone, including the glue.

Looking at removing the large decal on the front of my Sanibel 5th wheel travel trailer. Do you think one wheel will do the trick?

Probably not. Took me most of one wheel to remove a baked on decal that was a triangle shape only about one square foot of area. Not sure if yours is baked on, but most are.

Keep in mind these are like giant pencil erasers that wear down in a similar way-and that is a good thing because it helps protect paint and the surface underneath. Also, keep it at no more than 3-4K RPMs or you can cause damage.

You can get a two pack on amazon under $20, I would start with that.

I removed the Rockwood decal from the front of my 2304S with a heat gun, plastic razor blades and liquid decal remover.
