Renewing exterior black metal & plastic

Has anybody successfully redone their exterior black metal parts (Awning metal, door hinges, etc) or their black plastic trim parts (trim above wheel wells, speaker cover, etc.) without them appearing that they’ve been redone? I just want them to look original/new. If so, what did you use? I’ve used “back to black” on the plastic but it looks shiny & redone.
