Replacing hatch / window caulking

I started noticing that the caulking around the pass through hatch and another storage compartment on my trailer has started to ooze / bubble. No leaks yet!
I questioned the local RV repair facility and they stated that the hatches / doors would all have to be totally removed / cleaned and then resealed. I can only imagine the labor $$$ for that. At a campground last week, another camper looked at it and said that all I had to do was remove the bad caulking, clean and reseal! Since my siding is aluminum, I am reluctant to do much heavy gouging to remove the bad stuff and rather just remove what I can, clean the surface and reseal with a bead of something similar to BOSS 378 RV Sealer.. The pictures show what I am dealing with and just want to be pro-active before problems do occur. Comments, Opinions, Recommendations would be appreciated.
