Roof replacement price
Can anyone tell me what the average cost of replacing the roof membrane is. I just got an estimate and from my research it seems a quite high. Most of what I have seen on the web is about $100 a foot. The estimate I received is well over that. I am wondering if they are fluffing the estimate because it is an insurance claim or if it is normal.

We had to get ours replaced. 30ft camper $5500. Think about how much mess they have to pull off and replace. AC, vents, antenna, radio, more vents, etc.. Luckily ours was covered on insurance. We got caught in a really bad storm and had tree limbs go thru the roof, while we were in it.

I had a rubber roof replaced on a 32' 5th wheel. 40+ hours of labor. If $80/hr, that's $3,200 plus the cost of the material. $5,000 would not be an unreasonable guesstimate.

I talked to a guy at a campground once that said his 38' Montana cost $10,000 to replace.

Thanks for the input. It looks like the dealer is right in line or maybe on the less expensive side. They gave me a quote of $8600 for my 42' 5er so not bad compared to others mentioned.

Yep..
Was the shingle crew trained in mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and low voltage? The material is cheap. It's the labor involved. It probably takes a couple guys a few days to replace a RV roof. At $80 an hour instead of $30, it adds up quick.

Yah the labor rate in rv service departments are ridiculous. I did my house roof 8 years ago for 2000. Of course I did the work myself so it was a lot cheaper. If it was not insurance and I didn't think I would be in over my head I would tackle this one myself as well. I hate paying for something I can do myself.

I agree completely. Wasn't easy for me to pay someone to do it, but I just didn't feel like tackling it. I've done plenty of smaller roofs. I don't even take my 5th wheel for warranty repairs. I fix it myself, so I know it's done right and to my satisfaction.

$100 number sounds very good. I'm looking at doing mine next summer. Its a big job. I figured about $1200 for materials (30 ft Mirada). Its a big job that I'm not particularly looking forward to, but either I do it or pay someone a couple thousand to do it.

I'm sure that I'm overlooking something, but, I've always wondered why a person couldn't replace their rubber roof with the spray on box liner material such as Rhino.........other than the fact that is black.

A $100.00 a foot is normal, then carpentry is at an additional charge rot soft spots ect, but when you put one back on DO NOT use lap sealant, self leveling caulking so the work is warrantied , plus you get a 20 year roof coating.

As Tfort states in the OP, it's (apparently) an insurance claim.

Our old trailer had 3 branches go through the roof Insurance adjuster said $ 6000 to do a 25 ft no slides camper with ac 2 ceiling vents and the refrigerator , also 2 tank vents. Hope it gives you an idea.

Sorry didn't see this. Backing the trailer up in a tight space did not see the branch sticking down and tore a hole in the rubber membrane.

Yah I was watching everything else and forgot to look up. This thing is a foot and a half taller then my last one so height was not an issue before. I can tell you now that is the first thing I check. I guess the price ok with the insurance company because they have already approved it.
