Roofing sealant...what is this?
What product is this?
As you can see, it's cracked and needs replaced. This stuff is on all 4 corners and it looks about the same at all 4 corners. I filled the gaps with silicone (only thing I have at the moment). I want to get this off and replaced with something better or at least reapply what's there...but I don't know what I'm looking for.
What's the best product to use here?

I have no idea what was used to do the repair. The end of the trim piece is a common failure point on FR products. I would dig it out and replace with Dicor self leveling sealant. Check the type of roof you have.

It's lap sealant. Was most likely one used for EPDM. If your trailer is then they just used wrong color for whatever reason. If your cap is a tpo thermoplastic then it's the wrong type of lap sealant. It's not made for a rubber sealant.

Dicor is good. Many to choose from. Don't use silicone.

Thanks guys. Whatever this black stuff is, it is still very pliable and doesn't stick to the roof very well at all. I could literally peel it off, ball it up and reapply it. Sounds like lap sealant is the product of choice here. Heading to CW here shortly to pick up sealants.

If I were you I'd clean that off and wipe it down with a rag and lacquer thinner, don't let the thinner stay on too long or it will soften the roofing material. Put dicor on it and go along the grooves in the vinyl insert until it starts on the downward slope. After it sets up get some EternaBond tape ( https://www.eternabond.com/) and cover all the seams on your roof.
EternaBond works with all types of roofs and pretty much guarantees against leaks. Many people do their roofs with it as a preventive measure. I've done it to my roof and it works great.

Never use silicon on your RV. What you see on your unit that you think is silicon is actually Proflex Sealant, by Geocel. It looks like silicone, but it's not.

X2 on the eternabond. Just make sure all of the silicone is removed because eternabond will not stick to silicone. I also used dicor self leveling caulk on the edges.

what is wrong with using silicone? I am an idiot when it comes to all these different products. If the label says its ok, I buy it. Not the best thing, but I have no knowledge on an abundance of things. Hardware stores want to sell, even when you explain the problems.

Dicor is the product recommended by the company's that make the roofing systems used in the ft industry. And it doesn't work well with standard silicone.

Ditto. Decor self levelling works great for any horizontal roof joint.

I'll have to take a better pic and share it. This stuff is plastered all over each corner. Planning to remove it and seal everything up appropriately.

I have seen in RV stores that sell several type of sealant. the rubberized type flows and levels out and goes on the roof. I think that you have there on the side a type that can go across the top and edges and not 'run' or drip and does not 'dry out' and stays pliable. It comes in different colors of white/black/brown.

I feel that if you some sealant into the pre-drilled hole, there would no way for water to get in. At least sealant around outside of hole before mounting bracket.
