Small rip in roof - advised to replace roof

Hi, I need advise. I have a small rip in the roof. The photo should help to see the size. I went to the shop where we bought the trailer. She suggested that I contact my insurance company and have the top replaced. She said that needs to be done, otherwise it will effect the resale value. She didn't see the top, I just explained the size of the hole.

Is there something good I can do to fix this without replacing the roof? Was she out of line on her recommendation ?

For a small hole like that a roll of EternaBond tape is just the fix you need.

You should be able to pick some up at a RV parts place, dealer?

Follow the directions and you should be good to go.

X2 / Always have a roll on hand in the camper. A small roller is good to have as well.

She is right about it affecting the resale value a little, but is that something you're worried about.

I agree that some good cleaning and a small square of Eternabond tape is all you need for that.

Smear some rubber roof adhesive on the plywood, push the roof membrane back down then Eternabond tape. That should seal it up tight. Personally I'd only use a small 4"X 4" square of Eternabond. No need to overdo it. it shouldn't leak and I doubt it'll hurt resale much at all if any.

I traded my TT with a tear twice that size. I used some sealant and just stuck it down and smeared it over the slice. The dealer never knew!

The caulking that levels itself out is a good thing to use, too. It's not a hole to be concerned with other than fixing it.

If it were mine and I always keep in mind resale or trade value.I would glue it down to plywood and put some dycor on it self leveling, just enough to cover the rip. When you get a new Rv it usually has dycor dripped on it no one will ever know but you.

I have traded in 3 Rv's and have never had anyone go on the roof to check them out.
I don't think it will affect resale at all unless you sell to private party they may look at roof.

A couple of years ago I had a similar issue where a woodpecker tore a couple of holes in my roof like yours. The dealer recommended I get a new roof too so I filed an insurance claim. With a $1000 deductible I authorized the work. In hind site I wish I had just repaired it myself using Eternabond like suggested.

EternaBond is the best protection, if the tear faces the front of the unit

I wouldn't hesitate at all to buy an RV with a properly repaired hole of that size. Hell, three times the size wouldn't bother me.

Yep, that trailer is totalled with that tear. Your best bet is to find a place to dump it but don't forget to remove your license plates and grind out the VIN.

ETERNABOND is your friend. Don't just use it on tears but use it on all your seams to prevent a future leak.

Clean with acetone then use a 4" fiber backed seam tape that accepts a coating, then coat with 2 coats.

Ethernabond patch but round the corners. 90* corners lift sooner, than self-leveling lap seal over top of patch.
A 35' roof could cost 5-10K
A lot of stuff to remove. I did my own for 1.5K in parts....

I would not be taking my camper back to that dealer. The eternabond tape or dicor self leveling lap sealant is all you need. Inexpensive repair. Let us know what you decide.

That is no different than anyone that has added an accessory to their roof. A like the more thorough suggestions, but probably would be fine with a squirt of dricore.
