Smile Vinyl Roof vs. Rubber Roof

Hello,

I am curious to know your experience with the vinyl roof that Forest River uses on the Flagstaff and Rockwood Models. Does anyone know how they compare to the rubber roofs that most RV manufacturers use?

Thanks!!

Not sure how they compare to the rubber but I can say that the roof on my flagstaff has impressed me in the ease of cleaning and maintenance.

Myrphys oil soap does the trick.

We were out a few weeks ago and a limb fell from a tree and landed on the roof. I could not wait to get up there and look for damage. I say its pretty tough material as mine took a HARD hit and could not find any signs of damage.

Be glad that FR is using the vinyl. I consider it to be a very nice perk. Two years ago, when I was doing research before buying a new unit, the use of vinyl (TPO) was pretty much exclusive to a few high-end units. One major benefit is ease of care compared to rubber (EPDM.) The warranty is the same as rubber, 12 years, I think.

See the last two paragraphs on this page. Also search for TPO.
