Water in cab over bunk - Galvanized steel strips?

Class C over-cab bunk... cab-over bunk... what ever the correct term is.

I know this sounds like a broken record, since it appears that everyone eventually has this problem.

I began the demolition process to at least dry it all out and try to find the source of the leak (corners is my guess so far). But there appears to be a few strips of galvanized sheet metal running across the top of the foam under the luan. Is this structural in some way? Since everything is glued, it's a real pain.

I've watched a bunch of "rebuild" videos, but I don't see that steel in any of them.

2012 Coachmen Freelander 23CB.

Thanks.
