What really needs to be done for roof maintenance.

DH and I are planning to keep our 2015 Windjammer for several years. We had an old Mallard TT for 13 years and I think we treated that rubber roof maybe twice but it never leaked. So what really needs to be done for maintenance on the newer roofs. We don't climb up there ourselves ( bad knees and don't like heights much) so whatever is done will be at our dealer. Looking for advise before I call the dealership. Thanks!

I read some of the links and they are helpful. I am a bad TT owner though as I don't know what type or brand roof is on the Windjammer. That seems to make a difference to the type of the care and products to use.
I can't look at our owners docs since the trailer is at the dealership now for a little warranty work. I thought it would be good to treat the roof while it is there. This is its second winter..

I am certain since it's a windjammer that is an epdm roof.

It is not EPDM or TPO. It is a new material called Superflex by Alpha Systems.

From their site:

SUPERFLEX is a state-of-the-art roofing membrane engineered to provide premium performance for today’s demanding RV roof designs. SUPERFLEX Roofing Membrane is an Olefin-based single-ply membrane that is approximately half the weight of EPDM. SUPERFLEX Roofing Membrane is very stretchable and conforms to the multiple contours of today’s RV’s in a clean, chalk-free non-fade membrane.

Thank you. I remembered the sales person telling us it has some great new roof.. Went in one ear and out the other. We have the same trailer. Have you done any maintenance on yours yet?

Good to know about the 6 month check up and the warranty. Keeps their dealerships happy with the extra trips in for service! We usually store our trailers covered all winter but this year the W is on the dealers lot. We won't get it back until March.

Hi! We also own a Windjammer (2014).

The instructions as for caring for a roof membrane made by Alpha (found in the packaged documents in the RV)states that the product is quite inert and does not require periodic application of products to protect it from ultra-violet light or ozone and that in fact, these products can often cause DAMAGE to the roof membrane.

Just clean with household cleaners such as Top Job or Spic and Span and a medium bristled scrub brush and rinse thoroughly.

The dealer wanted to sell us a product containing harsh abrasive to clean the membrane so, I just wanted to let you know that they don't always sell or do the right maintenance.

I too have the Alpha Superflex roof.
The above highlighted is exactly what Alpha, FR, my dealer and my manual instructed.
Good enough for me

Thanks again for all the good advice. I called our dealership, where the windjammer is getting a little repair work done, and asked about the 6 month inspection. The service manager at Arbogast RV, Troy. Ohio, said they do a multi point inspection every time a trailer comes in for service. This included the roof and is documented for the warranty. Wow, Proactive service and no charge and they didn't try to sell us anything additional.

So for the 6 month inspection on the roof and to have proof you inspected it do you need to take it into a dealer every 6 months? Can you have a log showing what dates you got up there and inspected it?? I am sure they would not trust an owners log though.

Why go through all that just get rid of the lap sealant, self leveling caulking and replace with a 4" fiber backed seam tape that accepts a coating, all done never inspect your seams again.
