Awning auto-dump

So, we took our brand new 2509s out for a few days camping. It has not rained in our area for 3 weeks, so naturally it rained very day while we camped. On my Jayco hybrid, there was an adjustment to tilt the awing to let rain roll off. My new camper, I didn't see this option. It wasn't covered in my walk through. As it was starting to rain harder, I was fiddling with the two knobs that unscrew on each side trying to figure it out. Then, the low side of the camper suddenly collapsed with a slam, water rushed off, almost on my head, then it went back to normal position. Scared the crap out of me! Thought it was done for. Nope, just the auto-dump feature! LOL... So, now I know next time!

You can set the awning to an angle by pulling down on the side you want the water to run off and tightening only that knob. It doesn't take much of an angle but sometimes the knob doesn't hold it in place.

Yep... as mentioned, with the knob loose it will (or should) auto-dump. (if equipped this way, not ALL awnings are the same)

We have two main awnings, unfortunately in our instance, with the knobs loose, the awnings are WAY too high to be useful. We simply pull BOTH sides of the awning down, one the whole way and the other up just a bit from completely down. (depending on which way we want the water to shed) It puts enough tilt on the awning we never have rain pool in those awnings.

We also use awning poles and brackets on our electric awnings and it becomes as close to being as solid as a manual awning that you can get.

If you don't know what I mean about awning poles and brackets, just do a search of the forum.

I’m not familiar with model 2509s nor what type of awning it is supplied with. I don’t know of any knobs on my 2020 Sunseeker classic’s awning. Can someone elaborate on the 2509s awning type? Perhaps a photo?

These are the awning arms/adjusting knob on my Dometic electric awning... (internet snags)

Again, not ALL awnings are the same.
Some have auto dump features but no knobs.
Some have push button clips on the side of the awning arm for tilt adjustment.

I always tilt and lock in place if there is a chance of rain...have been jarred awake a few times by the slam of the awning.
