Awning Problem

Hi, My name is Marty and I am from Coarsegold California. I recently purchased a 2017 Forest River Forester 2501TS. We took it to Florida in December and all worked well, but now the Awning doesn't come out. I checked the fuses, the switch and the alignment of the bars, all were okay. I am not sure what the problem is. I am thinking it could be the motor or it is in some sort of bind. I couldn't find where i could post this on the blog, so I am posting it here. Any advice could be helpful.

Thanks, Marty

Are your other 12v items working, like the ceiling light?

Does anyone know who makes the Awning on a 2017 Forest River Forester 2501TS? That would be helpful as well.
Thanks, Marty

What make of awning is it? If it is a Solara it could be that the wire to the motor has been disconnected. There is a plug in plug, mine came loose and just had to plug the two wires back together. Later RJD

From the picture it's looks to be dometic . the motor is on the right side looking at awning . it fits inside the roller tube . look for a fuse behind the switch or maybe inline somewhere around there . you never know where they put them sometimes . it could be as simple as the wiring in the awning arm came unplugged or bad fuse or bad motor

Part of the problem is I don't know the make or model of the Awning. where is the plug located that you are referring too. I haven't seen a easy way to get at the motor either.
Thanks, Marty

Try removing the fuse. Wait 60 second and put it back in. Mine sometimes needs to reset.

I couldn't find the fuse in the fuse box, but all the fuses are good there. I was told there could be a inline fuse, but I haven't been able to find one. I looked by the switch and drawers. No luck. I undid the batteries for a day, and then hooked it up, so that would of done the same thing as pulling the fuse. Still doesn't work.
Thanks, Marty

Uh, no it doesn't. A fuse is either good or blown. Your procedure was pointless as far as a fuse would be concerned. Not familiar with your unit for where fuses might be located and you may have already checked it without knowing it. Never heard of a "reset" for an awning.

The make of awning should be on the top of roller where motor is at. You will need a tall latter then go to the right side of the awning at the top where motor is located you should be able to remove part of the cover to see where motor is plugged in to power lead. There also should be a rubber plug on top that can be removed this where you insert a metric socket to manually roll up awning or unroll. Non of this apply s if you have a Domenic awning. Later RJD

Run a 12v source directly to the awning motor and see if it works. If yes, your problem is either an inline fuse or a loose wire somewhere.

Ok, I found out that I have a Dometic 9100 18 foot Awning on my Forest River Forester 2501TS. The motor is bad, the Awning is showing signs of wear, So I have decided that I would like to replace it. The deciding factor was that if the power is out, you have to remove to screws and unplug the Awning and it takes two people to manually put it back. I have seen videos on youtube, where they have Electric Awnings when the power is out you can bring them in with a 7/16 socket and a drill. I am looking for advice on which Awning with this capability is best for my Forester.
Thanks, Marty

The cost of a whole new awning is quite a lot . a new motor around $300. new material about $250 . a new complete awning starts at around 1250 +++

How did you 'test' your awning motor to know that it is 'bad'? Did you put some power to it from an outside source at the connector by the motor. Is it the 'switch' that is 'bad' or a 'in-line' fuse? Narrow these down with a volt meter. You do not really want to change out the whole awning when this may be an easy fix.

I like Dometic but whichever way you go if you replace it I would get it with a weather shield.

Mr M

I don't want to get in a situation where I can't get the Awning up myself if the motor freezes up or there isn't power.
