Awning Rod

I am sure other members have found ways to use there awning rods for other things besides openning there awnings. This a great tool if you lock your keys in your car or truck. The rod is nice and round and slides between the door frame and rudder seal and can be rotated 360 degrees to reach any part of a door panel and the length is perfect. It can be bent as well for any angle that may be needed. This can save you a $65.00 service call fee from a locksmith just to come out, not counting the charge to get the keys out of your car. If you are a member of an auto club like Triple "A" then there is no charge. I do keep an extra rod in my car incase someone needs help. If it is an emergency like a child, pet or sickness within the vehicle the rod will not break the window, but my hammer will.

The awing rod is also good for retrieving things far back in the pass-through, or in the truck bed if you don't want to climb up there.

Also makes a reasonable pot or pot lid lifter.

I used ours to retrieve a sink cover that popped off the sink on a trip and ended up under the slide. Was afraid to move the slide with it under there and the rod was perfect for hooking the corner and pulling it out.

Now that's a great idea. Wished I still had a manual awning. Don't have a rod anymore with the power awning

Makes a nice awning lock too...

With a little tweaking, it’ll make a nice awning lock too. Here are some pictures of ours from our webshots page…

Some folks don’t believe it, but an awning can unfurl during travel even though the arms are secured. The little ratcheting lever you move before you roll up/down the awning is the only thing that helps keep it from unfurling in the wind while you drive down the road (if it’s flipped in the right direction). Here’s our awning pull rod that’s been modified with a bend at the end to create a long “leg” that inserts into the accessory groove of the roller tube of the awning. A pair of Velcro straps keeps it in place while on the road. There’s no mistake, you can’t unroll the awning until this lock rod is removed. Awning lock rod still functions as an awning pull rod for the vertically challenged wife.

Here you can see the long “leg” at the end of the rod that inserts into the accessory groove of the roller tube of the awning.
