Awning will not lock in down position

Hi and thanks in advance. 02 Georgetown motor home w/ A&E awning that when I pull out will not stay out wants to recoil back up. Not power. I think the r/s spring / lock assy. is bad and will try to replace it as only sold as an assy /w lock lever.
Has any one replaced the torson spring assy. ? I know spring has to be unwound but not sure if left side spring has to be pinned or locked?
it is a A&E 9000 series 20 ft.

When I replaced my awning fabric several months ago, I watched a bunch of YouTube videos to see how it was done.

There is a recoil spring on both ends. When I removed the fabric tube, there were two different approaches, Pin the back recoil spring, or unwind it then rewind it after installing the new fabric.

Regardless of what you do with the non-ratchet end, follow the procedure and unwind the spring on the ratchet end, counting the number of turns.

When I had mine apart, on the ratchet end, I specifically looked at the ratchet assembly as mine was difficult to release. I bet you'll find the pin that holds the ratchet paw is either broken or the shaft with the ratchet paw is broken where the pin goes through it.

Good luck, take a couple photos.

Here is s link to my fabric replacement

It won't do MACH 2, but I can get a sandwich and take a pee.

a simple google search for"A&E 9000 series awning fabric replacement"

resulted in this document

If this document doesn't help, change the fabric replacement to anything you like and hit search.
