Brown Spot Stains on Awning
I’m desperate!!!
I’ve searched high and low for answers on this forum and all over the internet and have found no answers. I can’t believe that I’m the only one that has this issue.
We just purchased a used 2018 Vibe 288RLS. (And love it!!)
It was parked on a seasonal site under a poplar tree where seedlings would fall and stay on the roof and awning (the sun seemed to bake the seed pods onto the roof and awning). The seed pods were also rolled up into the awning! What a mess!! As a result of that, there are TONS of cooked pods that have left brown stains and residue sticky residue stuck to the top and bottom of the awning.
So far I’ve tried toilet bowl cleaner & peroxide; dawn dish detergent and oxyclean; goo gone spray; vegetable oil; windex; I’m at a loss.
Please help!!

Well I can tell you that I’m not a fan of white awnings. I have one and it’s driving me crazy. That said I’ve used all sorts of products. My favorite is this roof cleaner yes it’s for roofs. But it’s been working as well as anything I’ve tried. I also like the fact that you spray it on and mop or wipe it off. So I find myself doing maintance to awning at campsites as a result of not having to fully rinse.
Also I’ll b replacing my fabric awning to a darker color when needed.
I have really taken a liking to ToughTop brand.. FYI.

I’ve always used part bleach part water, spray the underside completely then roll up and wait a hour. Unroll and rinse with water, repeat until clean.

It's going to take some good cleaner and elbow grease to get these stains off.
Might consider one of these spin brushes that were made for cleaning showers to help with the scrubbing:
$35 on Amazon.
The "Spray on Cleaner, Roll up, let marinate, roll back out, scrub/rinse method helps too.
Good luck.

Thank you for the replies!
Has anyone come across a cleaner that will ruin the awning?
How long do you let the bleach soak in the awning?
My fear is that I ruin the awning.

Most awning fabrics today are synthetics and resist damage from most non-petroleum based cleaners.
Have you tried "Black Streak Remover"?
I find it to be to be a good last ditch choice. Haven't tried "Goof Off" yet but if I have something stubborn I might try one or the other of their formulas. I'll do it first on the end of the flap to see if it attacks the material. If it does the damage will just become part of the "fringe".[emoji57]

I used a Pine Sol water mix on a wash cloth to remove similar staining on a Sunbrella popup tent cover. I was amazed how effective it was.

X2 what Homebrew said. I did same thing, let sit rolled up about 20-30 minutes. Not all the brown stain is gone but it looks much better.

Cleaning awning
I use Awesome from Dollar Tree, it works reall well and for other things too. Spray it on the awning and roll the awning uo, and let sit for and hour. Unroll and and put some Awesome in a bucket with hot water. Brush it on with a long handled brush you can get at Lowes, Home Depot,
, or Menards. They last a long time. Rinse with plenty of water. Let dry and buy a gallon of 303 Aerospace coating use on your awning wheels, tires, roof and side walls. It works on the whole camper. 30 can be ordered from WalMart, or Jet. Wash your camper and roof with Charlies soap best 2 products I have ever used on a camper in my 44 years of camping. Dale

We have mold and mildew problems in FL I agree with an earlier post - I'll never do white awnings again!
I used 1 part pool chlorine to 2 parts water in a pump sprayer and sprayed the underside of the awning. Pool chlorine is much stronger than bleach so in an abundance of caution, I rinsed the fiberglass after I sprayed just in case it might damage it. Rolled the awning up and 30 minutes later I rinsed well and most of the spots were gone. I had to hit a few of them a second time but that did it! The chlorine didn't seem to hurt the awning or the fiberglass.

Auning Cleaner
I have sprayed on "Simple Green". It takes care of black streaks and such. Fleet Farm sell it under their brand a lot cheaper as "Jungle Jake".

Brown Spot Stains on Awning
Try Starbrite Mildew Stain remover, I used it on my Lexington awning that had been completely neglected and full of stains, came out great and minimal scrubbing. Be careful to avoid getting it on the metal frame as it will cause discoloration!

I've read on these forums where folks have had good success with a product called Wet It and Forget It. I am not able to find it anywhere. Looked on Amazon and ended up with a product called Wet and Foreget. Based on the usages listed on the jug, vinyl TV awnings are not listed, only vinyl siding. Where can I get the actual Wet It and Forget It?

x2 except I don't roll it up. I use a sprayer made for bleach water and saturate the underside of the awning and leave it for about an hour. I leave it open with one side lowered so when I rinse it I don't get covered in bleach. I mix some RV wash in a bucket with water and gently scrub the underside, working from the camper out to the end of the awning. Then I rinse the camper and the awning thoroughly and let dry before rolling it back up.
As someone else said, living in Florida it is hot, humid and rainy, mildew heaven in the summer, so I unfurl the awning every couple of weeks if not camping to air it out and touch it up with bleach/water spray as needed. Much easier to clean when it's not left for too long.
When we camped in a pop up and hybrids I always had damp-rid inside and I had to open them fully to air out regularly as well, just to keep mold and mildew at bay.
I personally like having a white underside awning. It's brighter and open feeling.

Try X 14 at publix in the household cleaner aisle.... Works good, but will sometimes take a couple of applications... About 3 50 a bottle..
