Smile Dometic 8500 Awning won't extend

My 2004 27" Wildcat has a Manual Dometic 8500 series awning that will now only extend to about 6 ft. As you pull it down it gradually gets harder and harder to pull until it just stops. I can push it back to where it will lock in place.
I contacted Dometic and they said the springs are on back order and won't be stocking them any more.
Any idea's on what the problem might be? And where or what distribution center carries their springs.
Wound appreciate any help.
Thanks

Without actually seeing the awning its hard to figure out wha tis wrong. My guess is rust and garbage inside the awning tube binding things up. I think what I would do is take the awing apart and clean and lube all the parts and reinstall using about 12 turn preload on the springs.

Dometic 8500 Awniy

It looks like I will have to bite the bullet and pop the rivets on the end. Thanks for the number of turns on the spring which I have been trying to figure out.

Be sure you understand about the springs in the roller tube being loaded with tension.
You wouldn't be the first to "pop the rivets on the end" and end up hurt!

This is from an older RV I had with a manual A&E awning. The tensions vary by awning length.
