Door handle recall - Important!
OK this could be a nightmare situation in an emergency so it needs to be spread far an wide. Some RV door handles could fail and entrap a camper, forcing them out a window or other escape hatch. I plan to pursue this since I am pretty sure our latches have never worked properly.

so that explains why the last time we went to unlock our RV the bottom dead bolt was very hard to turn... swear if i turned any harder I would have broken the key!! Need to look at my keys later today!

Yep. In 2005, my lock broke when i locked from outside. Dry camped, in the woods. Not in a camp ground. Awning out. Slide out. Had to use a bottle jack in the pass-thru storage to jack the bed up. Then i squeezed in thru the storage hole under the bed and had to remove latch from inside. A small piece had broken off inside and jammed the mechanism. Trailer was 2 months old. I knew they were poor design then. Still dont like em.

I have had problems with our camper locks on our Crusader since we bought it. Even the dealer could not get it open the one day. They replaced the locks and the keys and we still have problems so this explains a lot. I just checked my keys and I have the HF-349 for the door and dead bolt and the HF-315 for the slam hatches.. Guess I'll have to be careful in the Adirondacks until I get back....

Mine did the same thing. I had to crawl inside the storage hatch and dismantle the lock set myself.
drove to the RV place and had to purchase a new handle.
I wonder if I sent them the reciept would they honour reimbursement?

Mine was only 2 months old. Dealer just gave me a new latch.

I just checked ours and it is one that is included in the recall. I don't ever see myself locking someone in but if it's free replacement what the heck.

Go to page 13 of the download pdf file. It's all explained on checking if you have one of the 20 key codes affected locks.

What does this lock/latch look like. my trailer is not home right now. I have the key downstairs. I`ll have to check the keycode if it is the right lock assembly.

Very similar to this one. You need to verify 2 things to qualify for the recall, all in which is explained in the pdf download.

Thats it! I had to replace mine. Not only a matter of locking someone in so much as locking yourself out and breaking a key trying to get it unlocked. On teh other hand when you retire for the night I personally enjoy using the deadbolt to secure my family.

Just called my local dealer to ask about getting a replacement door latch and lock assemble do to the recall as my key number matched the list given. No real surprise they had not heard of such a recall yet......So they have my VIN number and I'm waiting to hear back to schedule the repair. I asked if I could just get the replacement part and install it myself and got a big NO!! I asked why not and got no real good answer other than they want to charge someone for the work.

My thoughts exactly!! As this is the third visit for repairs and the fifth actual repair... I do not wish to haul the TT to the dealer anymore. As the parts guy at the dealer said "I'm sure it will be at no cost to you!" and my reply was " no charge to me other than gas for the 45mile round trip with camper on the truck and 3 hrs. of my day." I didn't get much of a reply after that remark other than enjoy the rest of my day and someone will be in contact soon.

My interpretation of the document is that you contact the company directly for the replacement and if you qualify only then they will send you a new one with a return postage box to send back the bad one.
Go back and read it again. The dealer has nothing to do with it.

I repalced my original lock due to this issue in Nov of 2011. I'm currently dealing with a Whitney Wardle at WWardle@wescodist.com
who assures me that if the numbers match you will get a tumbler set issued to you.

Thank you for pointing this out to me. Thanks to your reading and now my reading, I have now discovered that my locks work as intended. Even though my key# matches those listed, it may not be affected. I have also read that the part about once the recall is in full effect that the letters will go out and they will send lock cylinders to those that are affected. So I have called my local dealer and explained that in my haste of not reading the entire recall letter/statement that I misunderstood what actions to take and contacted them in error. Boy if I didn't feel like an A@#......but that is what one gets for not reading and just assuming he knows what to do. Thank you again for pointing out my mistake.
