Entry Door Gas Piston

We have noticed recently of the neat installation of a gas piston on 2013 RV's that they have a Gas Piston attached to the front door while it is open..
This would make a nice addition to our new Crusader 270RET...after contacting Prime Time Customer Service Department, we were informed that they could not advise us on how to install one since our unit did not come with one orginally from the factory..
This answer will not stop us from at least trying to get one installed..With that said, we have found a supplier that has all the necessary parts, we just do not know how long the piston needs to be..
Has anyone done this install or could maybe advise us on what we might need to go thru with it..
Help would really appreciated..

I moved mine so it also helps close the door and opens over 90°.

It is a Suspa Cylinder: C16-24764 GS-13-20 H.O. 19.7" extended 11.7" collapsed.

The camper anchor is 4" from in from hinge and the door anchor is 17" in from hinge.

I bolted the camper anchor thru the side of the camper and put an aluminum backer plate on it on both sides. Used stainless steel 10-32 screws and nylock nuts. Used 3/16" pop rivets to anchor the door anchor bracket.

Thanks so very much for your information on my on-going project...sure this will help me greatly...need to ask one more question on the metal plate that you installed on the inside of your coach, do you have a photo of what that may look like?

These things can actually cause damage. Just as Herk.....

I noticed at an RV show a couple of months ago that some units have these mounted at the bottom of the door and attach to the door sill. Not sure if they will be better at not causing damage or not. The ones I saw were affixed to the top of the sill on the hinge side and should prevent the piston from pulling away from the camper's skin.

Had to remove mine because it was ripping the door off its hinges.
