Forest River 2608BS Door Slams Shut in Wind
We have a Forest River 2608BS TT. The entrance doors are supposed to stay open when fully opened toward the side of the trailer. However, with even a slight wind, the door slams shut.
Have any of you found a way to secure the entrance door in the open position?
Thanks for your input.
P.S. I love the trailer but not the door slamming.

Probably has loose friction hinges.
If it's still under warranty, you need to have it looked at.

Our 2304S door has a gas shock on it to hold it open.

You could always install a door retainer latch. they make them out of metal or plastic and the work great. Very easy to install, relatively inexpensive, and available at most camper stores like CW, or hardware stores, and Amazon of course.

Many newer trailers have friction hinges, thus eliminating the gas shock.

We have a 2018 Rockwood 2608SB model in New Zealand and have experienced the same issue. I am not sure that this would be an issue only on this model, as these doors would surely be massed produced for several models rather than one specific model. However, I did read elsewhere in the forum, that the anti slam doors are rated to withstand only a 20mph wind. So, maybe not a sudden gust.

Our door is blowing shut in winds much lighter than 20 mph.
Does anyone know if there is a way for us to adjust the friction in the door hinges ourselves without taking it to a dealer?

I've heard this is a common failing as the doors age. Mine works well now, but knowing if there's an adjustment will surely be handy someday.
And...my awning struts prevent to door from opening more than about 90 degrees when the awning is out, so, short of anchoring it to the awning frame, I think this hinge is going to HAVE to work.
Watching with anticipation.

Thanks but...Our trailer is less than a year old so I hope nothing in it is aged yet (especially since with this Covid situation, it has only been used about 10 times!
Hoping that someone out there can help us figure out how to solve the problem ourselves since taking it back to the dealer in Indiana isn't an option right now.

You can use an independent RV shop or mobile RV technician. You just have to get pre-approval from FR and be willing to be reimbursed.

We have a 2015 2608, Same problem. The latches suggested in post #4 will work if you remove the gas strut. The space between the door and the side of the rv is too wide to use them. we've tried several.
In desperation I slit a piece of heavy plastic tubing length-wise and put it over the strut rod between the barrel of the strut and the door. If it's really windy I put a small ziptie at each end of the tubing. It's ugly and cumbersome but it keeps the door open. I'm hoping for a better solution as well.

I would consider utilizing a stainless steel eye bolt that a bungee strap can hold onto. The bungee strap could be secured to the outside of the trailer. The eye bolt would have to go all the way through the door.

The plastic Ts are available in 6" size. Removing the gas struts was one of the first mods I did. I used one of each. My aft door clears a tilt out window open and doesn't make contact. It's all in where you place the components

Here is my husband’s step-by-step fix for our door problem.
1. Open a standard 12-ounce beer can and remove pull tab.
2. Remove sheet-metal screw from bottom side of door frame. Replace screw so as to anchor a bent beer can pull tab. (May need thin washer on top.) See picture.
3. Use 18-inch bungee cord to hook into pull tab on one end (as shown) and under the side of trailer on the other.
4. Drink beer and celebrate the door staying open.

I believe that with the beer tab fix you have added some preventative maintenance that needs to be done. I would personally replace that beer tab on every outing to make sure it does not break.
