Frugal Dometic awning motor replacement

Last night we were expecting rain storms so I closed my electric awning. Today I tried to open it and all I hear is a click on the outside . Can they get stuck ? And what is there to do to unstick it?

Did you loosen the adjustment knobs (if equipped) before closing?

If you didn't, have someone pull on the arm(s) while trying to open.

Yes thanks, I always leave them loose just incase it rains the awning can drop to empty the rain water

Are these awning under any type of spring tension, like the slide toppers? I'm thinking about pulling out the awning from the arm assembly to see if the arms move freely in and out.
Of course I will do 1 side at a time .

As far as I can tell the motor side has no spring tension but the other side will attack you if not done properly. We are at a campsite till Saturday so I probably wont mess with it here. Knowing my luck the rain will end and sun will shine now.oh well AC still working.

Yes I wont move , just makes a clicking noise at the motor while I pull it.

I think there is a Allen screw on the top at the motor side that will release it so I can manually pull it open . Then put the screw back in to hold it out . Maybe I should just try this method. Then use my emergency pull down rope that came with the packet to raise it back up when we leave

Yes did nothing , just clicking at the motor

There are multiple ways of manually moving the awning (depending on manufacturer) but I'd guess your thoughts of not doing anything with it until you get home may be considered.

I have the same problem! I have a Dometic Power awning. We just got it out of storage and when trying to open it up...no sound pushing down but a click pushing the button up...manual does not say what kind of fuse it uses for the awning. Did you change your fuse and if yes, what kind of fuse was it? Thanks!

Didn't change any fuses, I can feel the motor trying to start ,it clicks in both directions. Just wont budge. I can pull ( by hand) on both ends and it moves about 1.5 inches. But that's because I'm pulling on it , it's not doing it because of the switch.
But I'm sure I have power to it

Well got home and removed the motor , little bit more tricky than I thought it would be. Still haven't tested the motor as I am worn out for the day.

Here is a pic of the awning motor. There are 2 wires coming from the camper to the motor . Is one open and the other close? Or is it red positive and black negative? I want to hook it to power just to see if it runs before forking out my cash

DC motor, the switch flips positive and negative so motor can go forward and reverse. So going one direction red is 12+, the other it is -.

So for testing, just put 12+ on red and 12- on black.

Hope I didn't make it worse.

I'm not sure I follow you , but still thinking about what you said, it will come to me after sleeping on it , LOL

It's a direct current motor (DC). If you hook a 12 volt battery to it, red to positive black to negative motor turns clockwise (just for comparison), then put black on positive and red on negative, motor will turn counter clockwise.
