Buy a new Awning. It's probably way easier and a lot less MESS.

Right, I'm actually not going to use anything with bleach in it. I'll just live with the stains if they don't come out. Thx

Well, here's a related question....
I have heard that some awnings have a cover that deploys when you roll it up. Apparently, it keeps water off the awning and the resulting stains that seep in.

Has anyone here had experience with these covers, and can they be retrofitted?

Cleaning awning

I've had the best success using 3% hydrogen peroxide. Spray it on, scrub it, and then rollup the awning. It does a super job. Only problem right now is finding the hydrogen peroxide.

I don't recommend a pressure washer. I tried it once and it's too easy to get the nozzle too close to get that "last little bit of stain".
Pressured water will chew up the fabric before you know it.
I speak from experience but I stopped before it was serious.

I've used the pressure washer for rinsing. I used a soft bristle brush in a water bleach solution. Scrubbed sections and then rinse. Keeping it off the TT sides and came out almost brand new. I used the wide spray wand for mine.

Thx
Why don't the awning manufacturers stop using bright white on the underside of the awning?
I'm not advocating black but a soft colour would disguise some minor discolouration.

I suspect you would have to buy a new awning - the cover seems to be integral. In my case I bought a K-style vinyl gutter and install it while in storage. It stays on tight but I'm not going to try taking it on the road. I've posted a picture of the setup so a search show you how they look.

Well it took 67 posts to get to the product I've had tremendous success with on a host of cleaning items, including the awning on my rig and black streaks, Castrol Products Super Clean. Also sold at Walmart for probably less than an auto parts store. This stuff will clean everything that needs to be cleaned, especially anything with a gease component to it. I use it as a laundry pre-soak on stains all the time including after a laundrying only to find Spray and Wash or other traditional laundry stain remover didn't remove the stain.

Great around the garage too.

Spray on awning with spray bottle (wear eye protection), work in with a soft brush on an extended a pole, let sit a few minutes, and rinse, rinse, rinse. Sparkling clean.

To preserve your awning no matter what you use to clean it give it a nice coating of 303 Protectant both sides ($50 or so a gallon on Amazon) and you should have no issues.

I would think that would require a lot of hydrogen peroxide to adequately cover a large awning. And you have to remember that hydrogen peroxide is very corrosive as well. I don't know that I would want that getting on other components of my trailer.

Getting stains off vinyl awning.

I have used a number of cleaners over the years. Most of the less expensive ones I have tried work just fine except they have an excessive amount of chlorine bleach in their formulation. This causes problems as it will bleach stuff you may not wish to bleach. Not to mention that you ought to wear some chemical goggles so you don't get the product in your eyes.

My product of choice is made by Thetford is called Premium RV Awning Cleaner. They recomend applying in the shade so it doesn't evaporate too quickly and scrub with a RV washdown down brush or a large sponge. Because it has surfactants like most spray cleaners they recommend wearing eye protection. The product is not as caustic as many others and that is why I prefer to use it. They also make a great product called Bug Blaster and Black Streak remover that I also use. I buy bottles when they are on sale at Camping World for use throughout the year.
